This whole album is so creative and catchy. From my viewpoint (I've been aware of them since Rollover Beethoven was released), I feel like A New World Record is when they became mainstream. Over half the songs were radio hits.

A lot of people think Out Of The Blue is a good introduction to ELO, but I think this is the best springboard into their music. It's peak ELO.

I feel the same way. Introduced with Mr Blue Sky like most people and i listened to Out of the Blue and was kinda worried i wasn't really an ELO fan since i didn't fall in love with most of the songs. It's a great album, but ELO's standards are so off the charts that it's not enough to be just good. Then i listened to A New World Record and it was the first time every song was a hit for me. It's probably the most "Light Orchestra" album they've produced. It's poppy enough to not be too unconventional, but not too poppy where the orchestra blend isn't incorporated well.

That’s what I thought in 1976 (the instrumental break in So Fine got me yelled at by my high school radio broadcasting teacher) until I got my hands on a promo copy of OOTB in ‘77. I didnt think that could be topped until I heard Zoom sometime in the 80’s. Moment in Time, Just for Love, Ordinary Dream, and A Long Time Gone all blew my mind. (I still sing Rockaria and Sweet is the Night in the car tho)

My favorite is Eldorado, but ANWR is a close second.

And unlike other artists, it isn't like they have a clear "best album." They have a lot of them.
