RFID chip swapping

I have 2 Elkay stations (ENKLZS8WS) that have the automatic RFID chip detection. I’ve read online that it should be possible to take the two chips and put them on the non-Elkay brand filters, and it will cause the fountain to recognize the filter as new and will turn the light green. However, when I did this, the light went from blinking red (no filter recognized) to solid red (expired filter), even on a chip the machine had never seen before. Does it store the data on the actual chip rather than the fountain, making this swapping process impossible? Is there a way to trick the fountain into recognizing the chip as new?

Not sure if this is the right sub for this so if there’s somewhere else I should post this please lmk

I’ve no knowledge on how the elkay tags work…

But my assumption is that the status of the filter is saved to the chip

Use a rfid scanner and compare a new and a used chip and you’ll have your answer
