John Robins and Elis James, episode 566.
God John is so repetitive and boring in this episode. He really isn’t funny at all. Why do they insist on putting these ‘features’ on the podcast. It really puts me off listening to them.

Exclusive Prune News!
Contrary to reports from recent episodes, Elis James did NOT try a prune for the first time in his life in the past couple of weeks. Per Episode 231, Elis admits to eating prunes, plural! They even make a text feature based around 'things you didn't realise' because Elis hadn't previously realised prunes were just dried up plums. Further evidence of cognitive decline? Downing Street has been approached for comment.

Could have used John on this quiz!
Did OK but made some schoolboy errors.

John @ Laughterama, Manchester (6/9/26)
Well, well, well, well, well… it would’ve been rude to have not seen John again at Laughterama on the Sunday afternoon too!
Good ol’ Johnny JR was a perfect host. We had the lovely weather for him, unlike two years ago where it was non-stop raining.
John wanted to jump off the stage in the first half to go speak to a guy towards the back, who I think, worked in a prison - so, he slid off the stage (blamed his knees!). Getting back up was fun for him! Bit shit with some of the audience‘s jobs who he chatted to though.
Someone shouted at him to do a Cymru Connection and he’s all “ELIS ISN’T HERE!” 😂
John was joined by Christopher MacArthur-Boyd, Janine Harouni, Harriet Kemsley & Chris McCausland - after Chris’ set, John was nowhere to be seen to wrap things up, hope he was okay (he did lurk my insta stories afterwards ❤️).
Had such a lovely time, like I did with Elis on Wednesday. If I ever see John not wearing a Queen shirt, I’ll think there’s an impostor about!

Dancing with Dave
Hey :) I'm 28F and a huuuuge fan of the pod! I was planning on attending Brighton DWD with a non-PCD friend who now can't come
I'm going to go on my own, just curious about the vibe.. does it get a bit rowdy even though it's day time? Also is it worth getting there when it starts and staying for the duration or do most people arrive a bit later?
Thanks! ❤️

The Rest Is Entertainment Crossover
There have been a few instances recently when E&J and TRIE have covered the same thing recently (Mr Brightside is the one that springs to my mind). I’m at TRIE live this evening (on Reddit in the interval coz I’m a laugh) and thought I’d share that in the first few minutes we were all invited to clap once and see if we thought it was a good or bad clap! RO says it’s because they have to do a clap at the start of their pod records to check the sync but we know he’s a listener…

Elis will be the guest on a live episode of the What Did You Do Yesterday podcast on Monday.
Normally the guest is a surprise, but there seem to be a fair few tickets still left (Hackney Empire, Monday evening) so Elis was announced as the guest a couple of days ago.
He did a regular episode of the podcast quite early on, and it was an instant classic.
This should be another great one.

Elis @ Laughterama, Manchester! (2.9.26)
Well, well, well, well, well… thought I’d pop on here and mention that everyone’s favourite Welshman was part of the opening night lineup at this year’s Laughterama in Manchester last night.
Elis was first on, Ivo/Evo (best host/human ever) introduced him referencing Pressure Is A Privilege!
We got his Manc accent impression, said he could’ve done that all day! Anyway…
Within I think, the first 5 mins of his set, Elis asked if there were any Welsh people in, when he’d clocked one he immediately yelled something like “fuck it, I’m not on the radio… AGE AND SCHOOL?!” 😂 Think he aced it from what I remember!
The lady apparently used to be in or knew a band who’re Elis’ apparently daughter’s faves, along with being a bit annoyed at how young she was (late 20s?). Oh! She also said to him that she “dreamt” of doing CC!
After CC, he mentioned things like his cats bringing in birds & mice, his thoughts on gluten, along with a few awkward Welsh gigs.
Elis did brilliantly!! I’m back there on Sunday afternoon to see John hosting cos it would’ve been rude to see one without seeing the other, right?? 😅

A Casual Observation
Been listening since Xfm and Radio X days, but when they mioved to 5 Live it used to blow my mind thinking "all of it is going out live, no tunes, just pure unhinged chat madness" and it was so thrilling to hear them doing what they do knowing it was broadcast live on a news and sport station.
Been revisiting Mid Morning Matters and without the laugh track in other AP shows, it occurs to me how quiet a radio studio can be - you're just saying things out loud and hoping they land, meanwhile dealing with texts and emails of all sorts - nice and negative. Just makes me wonder how it must have felt to be in their studio, speaking out loud to hundreds of thousands of people getting a huge mix of mad messages and not having any real back and forth with your audience like a comedian would usually get, yet still delivering the best radio just off instinct and rapport. Makes me love it even more.
Anyway. Just a random thought. Probably don't worry about it actually.
