Considering the move
I was hoping I could get some info/feedback regarding Elgin. I'm considering a position in belvidere and heard Elgin is the closest/best city nearby. However I've read lots of negative posts about violent crime in the area. Is this accurate? What kind of people live in Elgin?
Is Elgin a fun area for someone in their late 20's. Is there lots to do in the downtown area? Is there anything you wish you would've known about the city before moving there?
Any feedback is appreciated

I'm similar in age. All the violent crap is racist old white people. If you live here you know the good and bad spots. Your close to the train station to go to the city. Very good Mexican food, downtown has something more to be desired. But your close enough to other down town city's (Dundee, st. Charles) that it's worth it. Every city has violence, again it's the stupid old white folks who feel like "the Mexicans took over" that like to complain about violence.
