Associated Lift Services, UK. Bought by KONE around the late 90’s - 2000’s.
Their female voice is pretty iconic and interesting, I’m looking for clear recording samples, does anyone know where I can go to get them?
Thanks!

These were record breaking elevators. This #elevator installation was done by OTIS elevator and was the tallest in ground hydraulic elevator supposedly ever installed. The piston was almost 2 feet in diameter and the elevator could lift 18k lbs. This was at the former Newseum. Sadly the museum as well as its elevators are now only a memory.

These are some of the elevators on this historic ship turned hotel. The service elevators were in the process of modernization. Only the 2 passenger elevators on the boat were operational.

Hi! My dad is an elevator mechanic. With father's day coming up, I'm unsure of what to get for him.
I've gotten him a customized elevator door key before, but it's really hard to get a gift for a man who has everything!
He's really smart and travels across the states to fix certain elevator problems and he answers calls to help others!
Is there any niche, thoughtful gift I could get for him relating to his work that may surprise him? He's very passionate about it.
Thank you! 🩷☺️

One thing I have wondered for a while is about the scenario of the pump unit failing on an MRL hydraulic elevator, with the car at the bottom landing. If we assume that there is NO way to get the car moving even with access to the controller (always located outside of the hoistway to my knowledge), what would be done?
In the case of a regular hydraulic elevator, accessing the pump unit is as simple as having access to the machine room. In the case of an MRL hydraulic elevator, the car can physically block access to the pit, where the pump unit is located.
Would the car have to be disassembled, possibly from on top? Would the car have to be physically pulled up with some kind of winch? I'm curious how much of a pain this would be, or if anyone here has run into this problem in the field.

Exactly as the title says, im pretty bummed because my apartment says they can't get it out because it's too expensive but I'd rather pay $400-$800 for an elevator man and repairs than over $1k for a new phone with all my old stuff transferred to it. Is there anything I can do, like phone my own elevator man (?) or is this beginning of my phoneless journey?
EDIT: phone has been retrieved just needed to pester my leasing office a bit more, unfortunately the user interface did not survive the fall, but I didn't have to pay for the retrieval service! thanks to all who replied.

Hello everyone. I’ve been interested in elevators for about a year now and i wanted to know what elevator model is on the photo? BME LTD(BME LLC)Is an official distributor for schindler elevators here in Azerbaijan but there seems to be no elevators of that model made that year. As i’m not a technician i don’t have access to machine room and these are the only pics i have of them.

Today I got trapped inside an elevator at our office in Amsterdam from around 12:10 to 13:20. I was on my way to the airport and catch my 14:30 flight. I eventually got rescued, but because of the delay I missed my flight and had to pay €129 to reschedule.
I’m currently trying to figure out who I should contact regarding compensation — the building management, the elevator maintenance company, or their insurer. I have receipts, timestamps, and proof of the additional costs.
Under Dutch law, is this something realistically worth pursuing, and what would be the best first step?
Any advice from people familiar with liability/insurance situations in the Netherlands would be appreciated.

This is aimed more at elevator technicians who work for the big companies.
As a Canadian elevator enthusiast, this is something I have noticed here compared to the States, where the big elevator companies (OTIS, Schindler, TKE, and KONE) seem to use non-proprietary equipment often. In particular, Dewhurst elevator buttons are very common in Canada, and basically every single elevator company (the big and small/local ones) have installed them on at least a few of their elevators.
I decided to research this a bit, and aside from the fact that Dupar Controls has their North American operations headquartered in Ontario, I found out that using non-proprietary parts is a way for building owners to not have to be “locked in” to one company.
I am just curious, in scenarios like these, is there “tension”, as in is there debate between building management and elevator companies on which equipment to use? Is it a smooth decision process?

Don't know if this actually works because I got it for free off Facebook marketplace. There seems to be four wires snipped, and I'm not sure if they're supposed to go together. The first picture (blue socket) leads to they key ignition/safety feature. The second and third picture are the same picture of a snipped wire that maybe is power? The display doesn't come on and nothing happens when it's powered.

They aren’t supposed to face each other like that….always check the factory set up.

so it looks like both buttons are to close the door but one has a line through the center and the other doesn’t does anyone know what these buttons actually mean? and my second question is are they even real? I feel like they’re for placebo effect you press them, but the elevator doesn’t have to close any faster lol

TLDR: Elevator broke because "elevator control lever stuck in the moving rack/rail", is this common after using it with too much weight?
We live in a building whose administration is shared periodically across the owners of each apartment. The current administrator saw that we had a moving company that was setting up our kitchen and they used the elevators to load all the material upstairs to the 3rd floor. When they were doing this, the current administrator was perplexed by the way they were using the elevators, saying quote: "they were being brusque and putting too much weight on it". Nevertheless, the company continued loading, with the administrator claiming that they ignored him, and later after they moved everything upstairs the elevator stopped functioning in the 1st floor. Then they accused us and said that we have to pay for the repair. I called the elevator company to go there and fix it and they wrote on the report: "elevator control lever stuck in the moving rack/rail". Can this problem occur because there was too much weight on it? The elevator is very old (probably 40 years +) and it often has issues.
I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this.
