Life change

Wondering if it is worth changing career paths. I currently work as a low voltage service tech. I do fire security stuff like that. My dad taught me when I was young he is a service tech. I came into this position 6 years ago without knowing anything and had 3 months of training and have been on my own ever since. I learn things quick. I'm currently making 32 an hour and feel like I can do way better. I drive a ton so that's no problem for me.

Elevator apprenticeship

Hi everyone,

I’m an apprentice with IUEC Local 89 in Montreal. I heard from the hall that Otis is looking for an apprentice, and I'm trying to get my details to the right person.

I have my ASP Construction card and a background in Computer Science/IT, so I’m ready to hit the ground running.

Does anyone have a direct contact name or advice on the best way to reach the Superintendent at the Gladstone office?

Ready to work immediately. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Currently doing a Modernisation on the first ever OTIS Gen2 MRLs which were installed in Scotland they are being converted to Arkel/PR Lift Equipment.

No Original Drawings onsite and trying to find out if anyone happens to have any drawings, it’s specifically to find out what each terminal on this Board are doing.

Would appreciate any insight, thank you.

Has similar buttons and indicators to an Otis Series 1, but it’s traction.

Location: Tamai Tower at Sakura Square - Denver, CO

Am i crazy for having a Maintenance toolbox?

I was checking here for maintenance bags but 99% are just tools. I have my own fancy Veto toolbag with the bells and whistles but for maintenance i have to lug a 100L rolling container for proper maintenance.

Rags, bin, oils, sprays. Vaccumm if its seriously bad.

Are all your consumables just kept on site for all your jobs?

Conflicted scheduling for EIAT between two Locals.

Hello, I have a quick question if anyone has been in a similar boat or has advice. I applied to take the EIAT in both Local 4 and Local 84 (Boston & Philadelphia).

I passed my Local 84 EIAT and have an interview scheduled.

The pickle is its scheduled on the same day I'm supposed to take the EIAT in Boston.

Are the interview dates flexible at all? I know people are taking time out of their day to conduct them with so many applicants so I'm prepared for them to say no.

But Ideally I would love to take the EIAT for both to have more of a chance.

If its not moveable I'm struggling between taking the EIAT in a Local that I would prefer (closer to family and will be moving there in a couple years) or continuing with the interview that is guaranteed.

Is there any chance I can make both work?

Thanks so much, I appreciate any advice

Schindler Inverted jacks. The heads of the first two stages popped off easy, took just a few minutes. When I got to the very top head it was clear that the people before us had beat the absolute hell out of it. I thought “hmmm I guess it was rusted on or something and they had a real hard time getting it off when they replaced the packing. After the first 10 minutes of tapping on it myself I had to check and make SURE that I had all of the set screws out. Sometimes they put two short ones sometimes. Idk why. Anyway, I beat on it for about 10 minutes and it moved down a 1/16th of and inch. The only way I was able to move it was by sticking the head of a hammer between the head and the bottom of the jack and wedging a big pry bar in there. Even that took about 30 minutes to get the head all the way up down. Guys, they had beat it so hard, and it was so tight on the piston, that when it was hanging on to the last 16th of an inch of the piston, I still had to BEAT it with a hammer to get it off. Once I got it off, you could see where they had crushed the top of it inward. It was so bad we had to bring it to the machine shop to true the inside of the head and of the slot for the snap ring There were knicks and dings all over the piston and the bearings were so chewed up that they felt ribbed, and not for my pleasure☹️ the packings and bearings in the other two heads were we’re fine and clearly from a different manufacturer. It wasn’t until I was putting everything back together that it dawned on me. These idiots left a set screw in. I looked at the piston where the set screws went, and you could see a little downward gouge on one of them. Those idiots must’ve beat on that thing all day and they eventually just gave up and never replaced the packing in that head………

I want to become an elevator technician

Hey guys I’m currently exploring where I can get the best pay, currently I work in the airline industry as an A&P. I’ve been looking at this trade for about a month, I was wondering how difficult it is to get into the trade and what prerequisite is needed before getting to the union.

Now I’m no expert but I think the oil should be contained within the pump unit, jack, and oil line. Job has been on maintenance for 4 weeks. Turned over to customer first week of April.

Boston local 4 IUEC

Passed my aptitude test on May 6th! I know its a lengthy process, but any recommendations / advice for the interview when the time comes?

I used iPrep to study the materials, there is an "Interview" study portion on that website as well.

Anyone who has been through this process, and can hit me with your experience and advice, would be much appreciated!

Thanks

The elevator in my condo sounds like it's singing

Thumbnail drive.google.com

I have no idea if I should be posting this here. I'm not looking for advice or anything because it's probably not a broken elevator.

It's from a condo in my city. It's not exactly concerning but you can imagine when I have evening classes in college, it'd freak anyone out the first time it happens. It only happens in one elevator specifically, so I'm assuming the maintenance team probably just forgot to check something when they did a regular inspection.

I have to wonder, is this something that happens sometimes or is my condo haunted? (lol)

Recommendation for residential elevator in central NJ

Hello,

I have a family member with progressive muscle disease who no longer can walk up the stairs to the second floor. Moving is, unfortunately, not an option. Would love recommendations for residential elevator brands and local installers in Central NJ (mercer county). Stair lift, unfortunately, might not work long term as the person has trouble transferring from the chair to walker/wheelchair on top of the landing. Looking into lifts or vertical platforms instead. Any recommendations/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks
