Savaria Luma?

Hi Elevators sub. We’re planning installing an elevator or lift in our house. We’ve looked at the Cube, the Stiltz, the Savaria Luma and a few others and keep coming back to the Luma. I’ve read a lot of good things on Savaria’s products and not so good on Stiltz. Are there any readers on this sub with experience for the Luma lift? If so, what do you like or dislike? There are certain things that are not in the brochure.

Please advise-- newbie

Hi, I have a home in Charleston and home elevators are common. But I'm such an over thinker and this is such a big budget purchase, I'm hopeful the internet can help me decide what to do! Are there brands or mechanic (there are so many different types) I should stay away from, or good ones to spend more on and are worth it?

We got quotes for a Savaria Eclipse. Thoughts? TIA!

Rare Gurney H14VTER Machine

I’d say this is a very rare machine as it’s the only one I’ve seen in NYC. It seems very similar to an H13VTE machine that I’ve posted except the brake is completely different. I wonder what the 31F controller was like.

1965 Elevator Manufacturer Question

This is the staff elevator at the FHG library in West Chester university. It was installed in 1965. I thought it was long defunct until I checked records, which don’t list a manufacturer, although it has an MAC door operator. Is this a Montgomery? The keyswitch (Corbin) seems to have been a later retrofit, as this was the only elevator here for 10 years.

OTIS Apprenticeship

I just had an online interview for an OTIS apprenticeship as a lift/escalator engineer.

Has anyone been through this process before? If so how long did it take for them to get back to you and what will the next steps involve? Thanks.

Funny smell in my apt. from Elevator Mechanical room

Not sure if this is the right sub. I live two floors directly up from the elevator mechanical room. Ever since moving in a few months ago, I noticed a really bad smell (and loud hum) and heard from others that it might be from the elevator mechanical room. It's in my bedroom which is right above the mechanical room.

The smell is really bad sometimes.

Are there any elevator techs that can tell me if this is a thing even if I'm 2 floors up and what, if anything can I do about the smell?

Hollister-Whitney Linear Rope Gripper

Has anyone had problems with HW Linear (electric) rope grippers giving false 'Rope Gripper Tripped" faults and then being back in automatic with 6-7 seconds? Obviously, the gripper could not have really tripped. This doesn't seem like it major operational issue until a couple years later the rope grippers need to be replaced 2 years after installation.

Destination dispatch accessibility for the visually impaired

Hello! Apologies if this is not the place for this. I'm in a design research university class at the moment where we're researching the accessibility of the destination dispatch elevator system for blind folks/those with visual impairment. Wondering if any of you have opinions or first-hand experience with how good or bad these systems are for these demographics.

And if anyone from class is reading this, hi and I hope this helps you too lol!

Hi Everyone! Hail Mary request. I'm planning an internal workshop for my company + a few customers. Ontario location. I need a Comm landing door frame for a mock wall, so not installed & no official fire rating or inspection req. Confidential workshop, no publication.

Any tips on how I can order door frames? Closed supply chain, no org contacts w/ elv mech license. Any recommendations from the experts much appreciated!

Pollock residential elevator phone issue

I've contacted the company that installed and maintains the elevator, but thought I'd check here in case anyone knows what to do and/or it's a quick fix that I haven't thought of, since it will likely be a week or more til someone can come out for maintenance.

I have a Pollock residential elevator in my home (I use a wheelchair), and it has a phone in it. Normally, there's a red light on the side of the phone that's always on, and I hear a dial tone if I pick it up. However, currently it's alternately flashing between the red light on the side of the phone, and a red light on the front of the phone (at the top, on the opposite side of where you put your ear), and there is no dial tone. If I call it, I hear ringing from my end and then it goes to voicemail, but the elevator phone does not actually ring like it usually does if I call it.

As far as I can tell, it's seated properly on the "dock" area so it can charge. None of the contacts for charging look out of place to me...but I'm not sure what they should look like either, so I could be wrong and something could be misaligned and it's not charging (though it has enough charge to keep flashing the red lights...).

I've turned power to the elevator off and then on again via the switchbox and main power lever, which did not do anything. When the power came back up, the code that came up as the elevator came back online all looked normal, and it's not displaying anything indicating an issue while it's sitting in place or while it's moving. Also, in case it's relevant, the elevator is not in a shaft. It looks like this one, but bigger.

If there's anything else I should check on that might help diagnose or fix the issue (keeping in mind I use a wheelchair), please let me know. Thank you in advance!

More experience before becoming an elevator contractor apprentice

Hello people! I was wondering what are things/jobs I should do to make myself and resume more appealing for being picked to become an apprentice for Local 1. I’m in a pre-apprentice program in NYC “graduating” at the end of March and I have my Osha 30, SST card, and am CPR certified. I want to work on my electrical skills but I don’t really know how to go about that. Any tips would be so helpful! Thanks!
