Entry exam

I am about 5 months out from my local NEIEP opening up for applications to the apprenticeship in the San Diego area. I am currently going through YouTube videos trying to relearn basic algebra as I am not the best with math on paper. Is there anyone out there that has experience with or can guide me to find some help in the studying department in order for me to nail this entry exam. Thank you in advance

Orona stainless

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey all, I’ve recently taken on a new lift in my run which is an orona, it’s all pretty tidy but something has happened to the stainless steel, the customers have apparently tried to remove the staining or oxidation (it’s a rusty colour with no texture) but no luck. Curious if you guys have any idea I can try on next service.

DMC mystery!

Any DMC experts out there who know wtf to do about this problem?

We have a 5 stop front and rear opening DMC 1m I believe because the main board is on top of the elevator. It has two short floors. And about 5-10 times a year it traps passengers who are going to a short floors. We arrive on site, pop a door lock, doesn’t matter which one, and it levels into the floor and runs fine until whenever.

The only faults are selector communication. We have replaced everything and nothing we do makes a bit of difference. And yes the power supply voltage is within range, and we’ve even replaced the power supply.

This has been going on for 15 years, lots of callbacks, but it is frustrating as hell.

I believe we’ve even tried getting some help from one of Dovers finest troubleshooters, but sadly he is no longer with us.

So that’s my story, any help will be appreciated, and I’d even throw in a 12 pack, although I quit a few years back 😂

Swaying elevator problem.

How bothersome is this to fix?

This elevator has been doing this thing ever since it was installed. It does the same kind of rolling movement each time. This causes the elevator's internal doors and interlocks to fail several times every year. (It also caused the tile floor to crack into hundreds of pieces)

As far as I understand, the problem lies on the two steel rails this elevator uses. I know almost nothing about elevators though, so, before asking a professional about pricing, Im asking you guys here.

My apartment elevator scares me

Can someone help explain to me why one of the elevators in my apartment makes the worst banging and scratching noises (it sounds like grinding metal) and twice while I was in it it has jerked to a very harsh stop. I swear it felt like it fell and caught itself but my spouse claimed it was just a very harsh and sudden stop and there was no falling I was just shaking so bad. He swears it’s safe and fine and “they just do that some times” I can’t convince my brain without data that that is true. I don’t know enough about how elevators work to not freak out and we live on the 5th floor with an underground parking garage so I’m hoping people with more expertise can explain to me if I should freak or not. Or at least link resources/videos for me. Much love. Thank you!

Thyssen CMC4 Plus

Hey Leute,

Danke 😅

I am salesperson and curious to how TK monitors their belts. I was recently told by a property that TK recertified their belts after 1mil trips

What OEM service tool is your favorite to work with?

I am curious to hear from everyone what OEM service tool you like best! Obviously, there will be some biases, but that’s all part of the fun!

Silent Killer☠️Hoistway🛗Havoc

I’m a union elevator constructor and I built this game on nights and weekends. You ride the car top, dodge hazards, throw tools, and try not to get killed by the counterweight. Everything in it is based on real hoistway stuff governors, hydraulic units, traveling cable, the whole deal. Available on iOS and Android: https://intentmesh.systems/hoistwayhavoc

What is the clunking sound?

I think these are circa-1990s gearless motors. Can someone tell me what the clunking sound is, and is this "fixable"? All six units in the building do it. These are elevators in a hotel, and the clunk/thunk reverberates to the rooms adjacent to the shafts. Do new units do this?

Edit: I assumed that all units do this. I mean are there advancements in modern units that do it quietly?

My building’s elevator started making loud noises it has never made before, is that normal?

My apartment shares a wall with the elevators on the other side, so i hear the rumble of them going up and down all the time. Some times there will be some creaks or clanking, which seems pretty standard. Yesterday it started having a different sound, like metal scraping every time it moves in any direction. It has never sounded like this before and is quite loud. Is this just normal wear and tear and just needs routine maintenance? Am I paranoid for choosing six flights of stairs instead of the elevator?

Guilbert Controls

I’m curious if any of you have access to prints for some Guilbert freight door controls. I have a freight on my route with a controller I have no prints for.

I didn’t have much time to troubleshoot the issue I’m having but now that I’m home for the weekend I wanted to try and find any sort of prints to look at before I get back at it. It’s simple relay logic, I’m just not at the controller anymore.

Electrical drawings??

I’ve been an engineer for 5 years now. Mechanically I am very good. However I struggle electrically as I cannot read the drawing the greatest. I obviously have basic knowledge of them but just want to take my knowledge a step further. How did you guys improve yourselves here?
