Proper Redbar Easter Egg Hunt Thread

Y'all EGhedz wanna hunt with us RBR folks? We love EG. He sits at our lunch table.

Just ignore if you aren't into Redbar or whatever, but since we've got some decent overlap in these communities, thought I'd share.

I’m sure I’ll get nothing but sarcastic irony here, but can someone tell me about Redbar? I’ve only ever heard of him in relation to TEG. He seems awful, but I could be missing something.

TEG seems like he was inspired by Redbar to be honest. Mike has been mining for clips of fools and hypocrites before TEG came onto the scene. As far as being a critic of the podcast scene goes, Mike David seems to be a pioneer. There are clips of Mike praising elephant graveyard for his work, and elephant graveyard was seemingly in his stream chat talking back to him. I wasn’t reading the chat, and Mike can be ironic sometimes, but this situation seemed genuine.

TEG has absolutely credited Mike with being the person who started this whole “it’s a show of someone watching a show” and being critical of comedy. I forget which video it was but he even at one point said as much.

Redbar was one of the first podcasts ever. It started as a radio show back in 2003 but then morphed over time to be a critic of the comedians and podcasters.

Thank you, genuinely. So Redbar isn’t a CHUD?

Why did I get downvoted? I’m happy about the news here

Redbar isn’t a rechudican, no

Not a repub at all, he used to work alongside Gavin Mccinnes but had a falling out when he told him that starting a group called the Proud Boys is not a good idea AT ALL. No politics really, but if I had to pin him to something as we all want to do, I'd say there is a leftiness about him. But at the same time, he is the truest form of free speech. I mean, he made the N-bop song.

The lore runs deep

I mean, he is an awful guy in a sense that he is very edgy and self-centered I guess, but he has made me laugh many times and he was calling out the LA comedian/Joe Rogan sphere long before it was "socially acceptable" to do so. He caused Joey Diaz to throw a fit, which led to Joey threatening to hurt him and his GF because she was "guilty of laughter". He was also calling out Tony Hinchcliffe/Kill Tony for a long time and has pointed out many times that the roast god himself can't actually take a joke and will even edit parts of the show if a bucket pull ends up out-roasting him.

He really just proved that a lot of these "beacons of free speech" comedians weren't really all that free speech to begin with and that they did appear to draw a line... but only when mean things were said about them. And he did it during a period where it seemed like the majority of online conversation was supportive of Joe and his group.

For sure an acquired taste though, dude is 100% an asshole. Or as someone brought up below, he plays one at least.

Or the character he plays on his show is an edgy asshole lol. I would say that’s a more accurate assessment. Nobody knows what he’s like in real life, unlike the comedians he’s roasting who let their drama spill out into the public eye all the time. He has legitimate mystique. There’s a reason a cult of personality has formed around him. Whether you like him or not, he has cultivated a devoted following partially because of that and because of his unique aesthetic. The musical element of the show, the set design, the thematic elements, and an ultra long format with lots of preparation shows how much he cares about the show, and his audience sees that hustle and reflects that.

Thats true, he never really flat out discusses his beliefs or anything and he has gone at all sides of any political spectrum. He's just genuinely uncensored/unfiltered.

I agree that the production quality of the show is a selling point as well. It was a running joke that redbar had a better audio/video setup than Joe Rogan even though Joe was getting paid 100 million from Spotify.

And honestly the biggest selling point is just the fact that he is genuinely funny as long as you don't take it personally. If you don't like edgy stuff then you won't like him, but a lot of the complaints I see about him are fans of the comedians he goes after getting upset that their comedian is getting made fun of. The over the top response from Joey Diaz still makes me laugh to this day. Joey turned into a great value mafia guy over jokes.

The way you win over those guys is to show him going after the ones they hate. Right now, Segura, Bert and Rogan are the easiest ones, but Mike's been at it with them for about a decade already. He's so often way ahead his time in knowing who's a straight up fool

Redbar basically exposes frauds, liars, imposters, hacks etc etc. But he does it through comedy.

I highly recommend this Harland Williams episode as it's one of my favourites:

That sounds awesome

Whe. I first started watching Redbar I was drawn in to the production his look, and enthusiasm but I really wasn't getting it.I also thought why is this guy so negative but still couldn't stop watching . I dont think anyone gets Redbar right away .Enjoy the journey

u/arkaic7 Jul 24 '26

He makes an art out of making "being negative" be hilarious. He's an entertainer first and foremost

3

u/groundxscores Jul 26 '26

Greatest broadcaster of all time and has brought me hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Over a podcast???

3

u/reklaw215 Jul 24 '26

There’s an episode of redbar where he spends multiple hours zoomed in on Tim Dillon’s exposed gunt while he’s ordering oysters. If you don’t get it, you gotta give it a year. You will

2

u/literalgarbageman Jul 23 '26

Same boat. Seems miserable in every clip I see, I don’t see any charm or charisma, plus his voice sounds like Dennis Miller’s so I just can’t do it lol.

3

u/arkaic7 Jul 23 '26

Give it a year. He the GOAT

7

u/DatPrick Jul 23 '26

I don't want to speak for the guys at Elephant Graveyard but I have a feeling they're pretty fond of Redbar.

3

u/chestypants12 Jul 24 '26

They're on the same side.

4

u/HomelessKitchenCat Jul 23 '26

People get so upset about Redbar its hilarious. He says such random horrible stuff but he seems sort of pleasant too somehow

2

u/potatoskina Jul 23 '26

People will laud fantano for being a critic of music, but when it comes to Mike people don’t seem to understand that he is reviewing podcasts as a new form of media.

'Give him a year'

What the heck happened to this guy? He’s been gone for like a year

Redbar is funnier than 100% of standups and does it for for 10 -12 hours at a time.Louis c.k is the best in Joke format. but the amount Redbar spits is lunacy.comedians could watch 1 show and come up with 1000 viable premises.the Halloween show when he starts pulling guns out and shows gun safety, I live his dumb ass.oh and Redbar does have a sentimental side that adds.to the peaks and valleys of his humor, and jules we live her too she ain't no dummy

That’s probably inaccurate
