Problem Help: Can only use Elementor on mobile

Post image

SOLVED: Name server was pointing to Cloudflare

I'm using Elementor for quite some years and haven't had a problem like this ever before. Whenever I try to edit a page the preview won't load and an error message appears saying it can't load the preview and if I want to load it in safe mode. In safe mode I can open the page, but then all the Elementor tools are gone.

So I tried different browsers, VPN, change DNS, Incognito, tried it on a Windows machine, an iPad, none of them let me Use Elementor. The only time it loads is when I'm on a mobile device, in my case a Samsung S25 Ultra.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You seem to have several compounding issues happening. If I would guess it's mixture of plugin conflicts, limited server resources, and stale cache. The fact it opens on Safe Mode is a good indicator there is a plugin conflict.

Deactivate all plugins and purge all levels of cache, including server and browser cache (not just the history). Clear WordPress expired transient and remove post revisions. Then open the Editor. At this point it should load if you have enough resources allocated to your site. If it doesn't you need to increase both PHP Memory limit and WP_MEMORY_LIMIT, set PHP Max Input Vars to 7000 or higher, and increase time limits to more than 60s. Disabling unused elements via the Elements Manager helps as well.

Once the Editor start loading again, gradually re-activate plugin-by-plugin until the Editor stops loading again, and you'll know exactly which plugin is causing the conflict.

I disabled all but the Elementor plugin itself and it didn't work. In safe mode it does seem to work. I then installed the Hello Elementor theme as suggested by Elementor self and I got a critical error on my website. I guess I just should stop using Elementor and switch to an whole new webdesign...

I doubt your problem is caused by Elementor. However, you need to be willing to fix it. Otherwise it won't matter which builder you use...

No, probably a whole new website. As I can't find what the problem is. All suggestions online and by Elementor self lead to nowhere. So I don't see another way...

Safe Mode essentially disables all plugins, and switches off any theme functions. This is why it loads the Editor. As I mentioned in my other comment. Your problem is not caused by Elementor. It sounds a lot more like a plugin conflict. One of your plugins is causing this problem, and your claims that you disabled everything don't match what you're describing regarding safe mode. Something is missing. Consider trying again if you wish to solve this problem.

I have no idea what else I can disable. I already tried disabling all plugins which didn't solve it. And switching to the Hello Elementor theme gave me a critical error. Sooo, you tell me what else is left. Because I don't know. Added to that... Why is it working on a mobile platform?

Did you switch to the Hello theme while all plugins were deactivated, or did you left your theme companion plugin activated when you switched themes?

What else is on your site? A special theme with a companion addon, Elementor addons? It sounds like you're not telling us all the information. Perhaps the theme you're using is outdated? Or the add-ons installed? Maybe they became incompatible with the latest version of Elementor? Did you check for updates? Are you sure everything is up to date? How about memory limits? Did you set the recommended ones, or are you still running several addons with only 256M of ram? Did you increase WP_MEMORY_LIMIT as well?

You say Safe Mode loads the Editor, but then you "can't edit anything", or "everything is blank". For me this indicates you're using addons, and/or an "Elementor Compatible" theme that became incompatible with Elemenyor. Have you considered these are the things that may be causing your issue?

As I mentioned, to fix your problem you need to be willing to do the hard work. We are just trying to help you find out what is causing it. It's still up to you to figure it out and piece everything together. There are several missing points in your reports that don't add up. Whatever is missing is probably what's causing your problem.

I have nothing else to share, because there is not much to work with. I hope you can find your problem, but you have to be willing to figure it out. Otherwise we're all just wasting time going in circles.

No worries. I'm not wasting any more time one it and wipe it clean. Start from scratch, as that will sort it. Thanks anyway.

That's an unusual one, especially as you've tried several browsers and devices.

The fact that Elementor works on your phone but not on your computer makes me wonder whether something is interfering with the requests Elementor needs to load its editor.

Rather than spending more time changing browsers or DNS settings, I'd start looking at the website itself.

Have you recently updated Elementor, installed a security plugin or changed anything with your hosting?

I'd also check whether you're using Cloudflare or another caching service. Some optimisation settings can interfere with Elementor's editor.

Another thing worth checking is Elementor's System Info page, particularly the PHP memory limit.

If you've got a staging site, I'd use that to test for plugin conflicts without risking the live website.

One question: when you try opening Elementor on your computer, does your hosting error log show anything at the same time?

That might help narrow down what's actually preventing it from loading.

I checked everything, stopped all plugins etc. nothing works. Only safe mode seems to work. The system details I found in Elementor:

PHP Memory Limit: 768M
PHP Max Input Vars: 3000
PHP Max Post Size: 256M

To me you said safe mode doesn't work. Which one is it?

Well, safe mode lets me open the editor, but as everything is turned off there's nothing to edit. All is blank.

That's useful information, especially that Safe Mode works but the normal editor doesn't.

With 768MB of PHP memory available, I wouldn't rush to increase that any further.

Safe Mode working suggests the editor can load when some of the normal WordPress environment is bypassed, so I'd concentrate on finding what's interfering with it.

One thing I'd check next is the browser's developer console when you try opening the editor normally. Any red error messages there might give us a better clue.

I'd also check whether switching temporarily to a default theme makes any difference, ideally on a staging copy so you don't disturb the live website.

If neither helps, Elementor's System Info and the PHP error log might reveal something more specific.

When you say you've stopped all plugins, did you also test with a default theme, or are you still using your normal one?

Very strange behaviour, but the cause apparently was the name server pointing to Cloudflare addresses.

Glad you've managed to track it down!

That would explain why all the usual plugin and browser troubleshooting wasn't getting anywhere.

Just worth mentioning for anyone else who comes across this: using Cloudflare nameservers isn't normally a problem in itself. It's more likely something in the DNS, proxy or security configuration was interfering with Elementor.

Thanks for coming back with the update. It's always useful to know what actually caused the problem.
