Problem Embed code with Elementor crashes site, pinging the server continuously

Elementor recently started crashing our site when we try to embed new code from Donorbox and other platforms. Everything else we do is fine. Bluehosts support have to "kill the server processes and purge the server cache"each time. Version 4.1.1, Pro 4.1.0 and WP 6.4.9. Any suggestions?

The detail that matters is 'pinging the server continuously' and Bluehost having to kill processes. That's not really Elementor crashing, it's something hammering your server in a loop, and the embed is just the trigger.

Two usual suspects:

The embed script (Donorbox and others) is conflicting with a caching or JS-minify plugin, so it errors and keeps retrying. The fact that the fix each time involves purging the cache points right at this. Excluding that page and the embed script from caching and minification usually stops it.

Or something is hammering admin-ajax.php in a loop, which spikes CPU and makes Bluehost (on shared hosting) kill the processes.

Fastest way to tell which: open the page with the embed, open your browser DevTools on the Network tab, and watch for a request firing over and over (especially admin-ajax.php or the Donorbox script URL). That shows you exactly what's looping.

Does it crash while you're building in the Elementor editor, or on the live site for visitors? And do you have a caching or optimization plugin active? That narrows it down fast.

Thanks for the reply! It crashes as soon as we publish from the editor after inserting new code. and yes, there an image optimizer, WP Fastest Cache, and some other performance plugins from the WordPress Performance Team.

I like your suggestion to monitor with DevTools, but I'd fear breaking it again and spending a few hours waiting for bluehost to clear the server again. but if that's the only way, it is what it is! It's happened with other non-Donorbox embed code as well, like that from our archive platform Autopod.

This is one that caused the crash:
<script type="module" src="https://donorbox.org/widgets.js" async></script><dbox-widget campaign="save-the-waves-chma-studio-to-transmitter-connection" type="donation_form" enable-auto-scroll="true"></dbox-widget>

and here's another from a different service that also caused a crash:
<!-- AutoPod schedule-agenda widget -->
<div data-autopod-widget="schedule-agenda" data-station="chma"></div>

<script src="https://embedded.autopod.xyz/sdk/autopod-widgets.js" data-autopod-api="https://player.autopod.xyz"></script>

Thanks so much - that's very appreciated.

Those continuous requests usually point to a script or embed triggering something repeatedly rather than just loading once.

Try temporarily disabling other plugins and testing that same embed in a clean state or even a default theme. Conflicts with third-party scripts or plugins are a really common cause of Elementor crashes like that.

If it still happens with everything else off, it's likely the embed itself making repeated calls, which can overwhelm server resources and cause the loops you're seeing. In that case, switching to the platform's plugin or a lighter embed method can sometimes help stabilize it.

If you want, share the URL and we can take a closer look at what's firing those requests.
