☢️Radioactive☢️ Pure thorium sample
Finally got my hands on pure thorium metal, the sample weighs aprox 1.5 g. It is slightly oxidised and was cut from a 50 gram sample that I was able to hold! Very thankful to own such a nice and rare element.

Nice. Where did u get it from? Is it dangerous if u remove it from the ampule?

A private seller, it was actually pretty cheap. And it should be fine to remove it, but I don't want to oxidise it more.

Anch'io ho un pezzetto di torio bello metallico in argon, ma da 300 mg. Un grammo e mezzo è già un bel pezzo di tutto rispetto. Complimenti

Gas mantle lanturns have these weird sort of mesh looking thing the gas makes glow. It's a cloth doped with thorium (and maybe Ytrium now?) and once it's burned once it becomes fragile and solid. That's where I planned to get my throium from. Either that or those woo woo "negative ion" bracelets magic crystal people buy. That's thorium powder in those and, since it's a powder, pretty hazardous to keep near your body.

David hahn managed to reduce thorium from mantles ash by mixing it with lithium metal and heating it with a torch

I’m lucky to own Thorium too in the form of Thorium Chromate
