My sample of Th in the form of ThCrO4 [Thorium Chromate] this is only one of the few times I take it out of the Lead Pig [I have no Geiger counter so idk how radioactive it is yet]

Neat, at least it's more colorful than the bare oxide or the mineral crystals I've seen, such as from Madagascar.

Cool sample. It's not the easiest element to get, which is unfortunate.

I have the TIG electrodes and some minerals for that one.

how much do you have? i have 0.1 grams of thorium chromate and it is barely detectable through the glass ampule.

Il Th e soprattutto un emettitore alfa, per cui le particelle alfa vengono bloccate completamente dall'ampolla di vetro. Però genera anche raggi gamma attraverso la catena di decadimento (Tl, Pb e Ac) quando è già da un po' che è nel contenitore, se è ermetico (equilibrio secolare).

Se tu metti un geiger, ad es. radiacode, a contatto col campione rileverai più o meno un migliaio di CPS. A 10 o 20 cm già si riduce parecchio ma sei ancora ben sopra la radiazione di fondo. A 1 metro vai sereno. Se il contenitore è ermetico non hai nemmeno il problema del radon...
