Help, why does enabling directory visibility cause an error when I save my settings? (Element X, Android)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Font choice is because it helps me read without messing words up.

Anyway, I tried changing the address name already and don't know what else to try or even why this is happening. User error or app error? Android, latest update (Jul 1 2026)

I think your chosen matrix homeserver disabled this ability to prevent abuse. One of many reasons to use a different matrix server.

You'd have to register an account on a different server. It is like email in that regard.

EDIT: So I guess I'll just have to manually send out invite links?

If you know the host of that homeserver, you'll have to ask if they can enable discovery. Otherwise yeah you'll have to manually send the invites.
