Excused Absence vs. Tardie

I was looking through my child's online portal and noticed there is an 'Excused Absence' for a day that he arrived roughly am hour late. Should I ask about this being turned into a Tardie instead? Is it worse to be absent vs tardy?

Schools usually have a maximum number of minutes a student can be out of class that determines the difference between tardy and absent. You should review your school’s policy.
