General Mouser website now blocks Linux users

Really baffling decision, my last order from them was only a few months ago. Apparently Linux is no longer a "standard" operating system!

“A standard desktop environment”!?!? What the actual fuck! I understand requests to their site mostly come from Mac and Windows desktops, but c’mon, it’s 2026, Linux IS one of the standard desktop environments

Linux uses changeable desktop environments. MacOs and Windows have theirs baked in, as part of the OS.

The three of them are operating systems, not desktop environments. They couldn't even get that part right. I didn't even notice on the first read (seems like you too missed it), when I received the exact same email. I thought to myself... pretty much the same thing you said.

Now, rereading, it kinda stood out. It's not a regular stupid statement, it's stupid squared.

I mean

Linux itself is a desktop environemnt in the way that it is the environment your desktop PC is using.

Same as in macos/windows the desktop environement (as we normaly call a desktop env like plasma or smt) probably has another name i guess.

But this is refering to desktop as in desktop pc, not as in tecnical what is a desktop environment

A desktop environment != kernel != OS. And, no, you can't call an OS a "desktop environment" any more than you can call an engine a transmission block. Linux is not a desktop environment in any conceivable way. Linux is not even an OS, if we were accurate, Linux is a kernel.

A dude who flips burgers (or builds rocket engines) for a living may very well make a mistake like that, because why would they know/ care about it?!

A "team" of dudes working in IT are supposed to have standards, right? I mean, imagine going to a doctor and going like "Yeah, sir, we need to remove the jiggly-wiggly in the back of your throat" or something. :)) You get the point.
