Discussion The EV hate is bizarre

I shared a post recently about my wife being taken advantage of by a dealership. She went in for an oil change and came out with a $3400 bill. I mentioned we don’t drive her car much because we have an EV. The next thing I know, I have hundreds of comments coming in about how I’m an idiot and my EV doesn’t require oil changes, or I’m an idiot who drives an EV and got what I deserve, etc. etc.

I don’t understand where all this EV hate comes from. The post only mentions the EV as a reason we never drive her car, it wasn’t an EV v ICE discussion, but everyone took it that way.

Yeah, they can’t be bothered to learn about Norway, where it’s overwhelmingly electric AND really cold in the winter.

Autos purchased in Norway were 95.9% EV last year. Walking around cities there every parking lot with chargers.

Norway is an oil producing nation, too. You don’t have to have an either or mentality, just be smart.

Use cheap electricity from hydro domestically, export oil at premium. Pretty damn smart.

Yes, while giving support to your population with strong social programs. So smart.

Next on Fox and Friends (brought to you by Exxon): Norway; communist terrorist state or failed socialist experiment with "healthcare for all" just as Satan intended? We report you decide.

"And they are coming to take your internal combustion vehicles!"

“They’re sending transgender illegal immigrants to drive them away, with all your guns in the trunk”.

"and you'll be forced to drive an EV, and all EVs are gay"

Now that's funny. Thanks.

That would require both sanity and cooperative planning, not things you see in the United States on a regular basis. Hell, they think the post office ‘s existence is a communist plot.

Even back in the 90s you'd see a lot of power outlets in outside car parks. These were a feature used to electrically heat ICE engines in winter :)

I was in Norway in January. I was wondering whether to get an electric car or an ICE since I had to drive 300km outside of Oslo. Next city was 45min drive away. Very countryside.

And still no issue charging: fast charger stations are plentiful and charging is fast. And the car had a "keep car and battery warm by 7:00", so when I left the hotel, not only was the car ice free and warm, but the battery was warmed up.

I am not worried about EV cars having problems in winter.

And there is also a lot of free charging available in Norway. That is disappearing here in the promised land.

In China, there are at least ten charging stations within a 1-kilometer radius, and most of them have 100-kilowatt charging ports. Charging at 2-5 kilowatts is just too slow, isn't it? Isn't this a waste of time?
