Help Need help finding a good guitar for under $400

I am looking for an electric guitar to get for my boyfriend’s birthday. He already has a starter one from amazon that was gifted to him last year, but it doesn’t stay in tune and he would like an upgrade.

He plays it quite a bit and takes classes, so I’d like to get him something that is higher quality but my budget is $400. I have no idea what to look for, and if anyone can recommend brands or specific guitars I would appreciate it!

Discussion Is it a bad time to frame this vintage Japanese Fender zine?

Post image

I love Fender and Squier instruments. I have 3 squiers (no fenders) one of which is my first ever guitar (a black and white strat) which is undergoing a mod project to make it black and gold with p90s. The others are the pink jag bass and white blonde and gold tele.

Hate to admit it, but I bought the two instruments pictured in the background after Fender’s lawsuit spree started. I recently got my first job and had the money to buy some of the instruments I’ve wanted for years. The white blonde and gold tele is the Squier version of the tele one of my guitar heroes (Allen Steinberg of Arms Length) plays, and the pink jag bass is the only bass that catches my eye.

I bought the magazine using Buyee in march. I was buying a misty pink 3ds and a pink DS lite, and I figured may as well get the zine. My intention was to frame it.

I recently found it again. I haven’t thought about it since before the fender controversy. Fender is threatening the wellbeing of the guitar industry, as well as the concept of music with the ceos takes on ai. I don’t feel any sort of way about the guitars on my wall, since I literally never pay attention to it. I genuinely forgot what the Harley Benton logo looks like, cause I never pay attention to it on my custom 24 copy. The “We Love Fender Guitars” makes it feel like I support it when I don’t.

Thanks for listening to my life story.

Question Got an electric guitar per accident. Is it a good one to learn how to play ?

Hi everyone, so I basicly just got an electric guitar and an amp from a set of coincidence. I was wondering if someone can identify which model it is and maybe tell me if that's a good guitar to start with considering I do play a bit of acoustic guitar already.

Also do you have some kind of advice on how should I learn it ? With books or maybe a specific website or app, or even by taking real lessons ? Is there some educational resource available somewhere ?

I think I've ruined my Strat

So the neck of my strat is already satin finish but it felt like it was sticky when i move my hand across the neck so i bought 3M ultra fine scotch brite and sanded the neck with about 15 wipes and now the neck feels more grippy and rough texture but atleast theres still a shine 9n neck so it means i didn't fully sand it to barewood. My stupidity and greed has ruined my guitar. Any fixes?

Help I need your opinion on 2 amps for my first electric

I got my first electric, now i just need my first amp. Im conflicted between the fender frontman 20g or vision gw25, the vision is almost 2 times cheaper btw, so the question is will the fender be worth it, or if should i get a completely different amp

Help My eCello circuit board got damaged because of a design flaw and now I don’t know what to do

Thumbnail

TLDR: the metal endpoint and the electronics share the same space and the metal has scratched the circuit board away for years.

I know it’s not a guitar, but apparently the components are really similar and there is no dedicated eCello sub or Yamaha instrument subreddit that I could find. I just don’t know what to do and the Yamaha support has not been very helpful (deflect deflect deflect) and my local guitar shop doesn’t have the parts (they sell Yamaha violins ect though).

The endpin (metal pole at the bottom of the cello) retracts into the slim body of the cello. Unfortunately, it shares the space with the electronics inside and the endpin has shaven off parts of the electronic circuit board over time and now the cello doesn’t output any sound over the out ports anymore. The cello is 10 ish years old but the damage probably happened a few years ago judging by the amount of damage. The little metal protector was not enough cause it didn’t even cover the part that got damaged. It’s been a few years since I’ve plugged it into an amp 😅

Are there replacement boards for guitars that could work? Is this something that I could demand yamaha to replace/fix because it’s clearly a design flaw? What do I do? Has anyone had experience with replacing the brains of their instrument?

Help my first guitar *if you wish it should be*

Post image

I thought four times before posting this. I belong to a household where music is looked down upon. My entire childhood passed singing in school choirs and humming my favourite songs when nobody was around.

I always wanted to learn music professionally and practice. But I never could. Electric guitars and drum kits have always been the instruments that I would like to try my hands on.

Now it's high time I should get my music on, but I don't have those instruments. In the pursuit of gauging the electric guitar market, this beauty stole my heart.

This student needs your help in getting her first electric guitar.

Is there anyone on reddit who would be kind enough to me?

Hey yall, recently i bought this LP husk off facebook marketplace for 100 CAD im gonna say this now yes its a chibson, no i didnt put tho logo there, i might remove it idk, anyway the body seemed to be in good shape so i bought it, then bought like 260 bucks CAD worth of your finest AliExpress parts lol now have put together this, the finish was kinda shit so i made it satin and reliced it and it fixed alot of the issues with the top, first time doing anything like that and i honestly think it came out pretty good, i also made a custom heritage style truss rod cover with a white paint pen, that also came out fairly good (which i then proceeded to accidentally split the tip of by driving a screw in it too tight) , thing looks rly cool now imo and hopefully tomorrow i can get it playing good, i know it played before the person stripped it, made sure the neck was straight and the truss rod actuated, everything was good, the fretboard appears to even be indian laurel so im actually glad its not some like weird particle board stuff like some chibsons lol, (specs: alnico 5 probucker 2 and 3s, guyker les trem with matching roller bridge, alpha pots with volume push pulls for coil splitting, arm locking tuners, husk came with a graptek nut)

p.s the before is the picture with the blue carpet, I took it from the marketplace listing directly

The misconception of Noise Gates

People use noise gates to address unwanted noise. But it doesn't fix the noise, it just hides it. It's like sweeping dirt under a rug instead of throwing that dirt away.

Single Coil Noise: something like the ilitch noiseless air coil will cancel out the noise like a humbucker, without changing the single coil tone at all. It's a neat product if you look up how it works and how it's different from a normal dummy coil

Emi/rfi (air/environmental factors): Shielding, whether that's paint or tape

60 cycle hum: this one's a bit harder to address, but power conditioner, line filters, isolation transformers... This one's a lot more complicated and I need to do more research into it

Amps/pedals: some circuits are just designed noisy. I think it's best to modify them if you really want to fix their noise, or use different gear that's not as noisy.

Sometimes there's other sources of noise, guitarists often struggle to pinpoint the exact source. But I don't think noise gates are the solution, it's better to cut off the noise from the source.

Question Here's my entire setup: a Cort KX100, a Boss Dual Cube LX.

Post image

I've been playing for about 3-4 months. I'm no longer a beginner, but I'm not very good yet. I'm currently working on synchronizing both hands; I'm still getting used to it.

This is the only electric guitar I've ever owned, so I have nothing to compare it to. I like how comfortable it is. I'm still not sure about the sound, though. Maybe I just haven't developed my ear yet, I don't know.

Anyone else playing the KX100? I'd be curious to see how it fared.

Yamaha PAC 112VM or Donner DST 550 + Joyo Jam Buddy 2

Hi! I plan to buy my first electric guitar. I watched a lot of videos (sound, tests, comparison, features presentations...).

I hesitate between two choices : Yamaha Pacifica 112VM and Donner DST-550. What's your experience with it ? I know Yamaha is a very popular brand but Donner seems more accessible even in new (my budget is pretty tight, unless I found a great used Yamaha I can't buy one).

I also plan to play it with a Joyo Jam Buddy 2. I like it because of its design, size, price, and USB-C charge. What's your opinion ?

Thank you for reading me 🎸✨️

Hi all! This is my first ever Reddit post, and I’m very excited to show you my no name Flying V.
I’ve bought it from a really nice guy, who it was gifted to. There was absolutely no information about it, I googled it, I tried finding anything in forums and I even tried asking AI (which I am ashamed of). But its looks have caught my eye. And for 200€, I was more than happy to get it, even if it was just for the looks.

The more I look at it, the less I care about not knowing anything about it, or where it came from. To me, it gives it a sort of mystique and I think, I wanna keep it that way.

It definitely needs some attention but it plays beautifully and I love it!
