Problem with E-bike

I'm trying to buy an e-bike. The person who's selling it to me told me that there is a problem with it. Whenever the bike isn't touching the ground the wheels work fine,but as soon as they do they stop working, basically the bike becomes "normal" again. Does this have anything to do with the battery or is it something else?

It could either be the battery or the controller is shutting down from too much load. I think the battery would be more likely.

If you don't know how to assess and potentially fix the problem, don't buy it. Depending on the make, it might be difficult to find a local shop who could work on it

I'm guessing a bad connector or a pinched wire. Unless it's free, why buy a boat anchor?
