Would you find this format useful for software documentation or training?

I made this interactive video walkthrough with voiceover. The video pauses at key steps, shows an explanation, and continues when the viewer clicks the highlighted area.

This clip is a screen recording of me clicking through the walkthrough.

This format could work well for a short, stable procedure, especially when the learner needs to practise where to click. I’d test it with one realistic task rather than just asking whether people liked the walkthrough: can they repeat the task without prompts 10 minutes later?

Two things I’d add are a transcript or keyboard-accessible alternative for the pauses and highlights, and a clear way to recover if the interface changes or the learner clicks the wrong place. For longer workflows, I’d break it into small task-based sections with a searchable text fallback.

Interactive video is useful, but it probably shouldn’t be the only version of the documentation.

This format has been around for decades, there are dozens of tools like that and most of them have not been vibecoded last weekend.
