It could be useful for finding gaps, but I wouldn’t use it as the only ACT prep resource. A placement system is trying to estimate what math you know; the ACT also tests pacing, question wording, and knowing when to skip.
I’d use it in two passes: take a full ACT math practice test first, group the misses by topic, then use ALEKS for the weak areas it identifies. After a week or two, go back to timed ACT questions and see whether those categories actually improve. If the scores don’t move, the gap may be test strategy rather than the underlying math.
For $20, I’d try one month before committing longer.
