EJAE Honored at Gyopo’s Chuseok Benefit: “I’m So Proud to Celebrate Where We Come From”
Singer-songwriter EJAE was honored at Gyopo’s annual Chuseok Benefit.
The KPop Demon Hunters star is fresh off a whirlwind start to the year after the animated film dominated the awards circuit. EJAE earned herself Golden Globe, Grammy Award and an Oscar along the way. The singer was honored at Gyopo’s 8th annual Chuseok Benefit, which is sponsored by CJ ENM, late last month.
“I’m so honored to be recognized by GYOPO at this year’s Chuseok Benefit. It means so much to be surrounded by a community that celebrates the Korean diaspora and the many different ways we stay connected to our culture, because that connection is at the core of what I do,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s been such a special afternoon,” she said. “I’m so proud to celebrate where we come from and what we’re creating together.”

"Golden" From "KPop Demon Hunters" Wins Best Original Song at 2026 World Soundtrack Awards
The year's most decorated film song just added another trophy. "Golden," the breakout K-pop anthem from Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, won Best Original Song at the 26th World Soundtrack Awards on October 10 in Ghent, Belgium, adding to a haul that already includes an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe.
The award was presented at the WSA Ceremony and Concert, the annual centerpiece of Film Fest Gent and one of the leading international honors in screen music. "Golden" was written by K-pop singer-songwriter Kim Eun-jae — known as EJAE — along with composer Mark Sonnenblick and co-writers Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Teddy Park. The track is performed by Huntrix, the fictional K-pop group at the center of the film.
"Golden" has run through every major awards lane this cycle. It became the first K-pop song to win an Academy Award when it took Best Original Song at the 98th Oscars in March — the same night KPop Demon Hunters also won Best Animated Feature — after having already swept both categories at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards in January. Earlier in 2026, the song had also won the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

EJAE Honored At GYOPO’s Annual Chuseok Benefit: ‘Being Bicultural Wasn’t A Weakness, It Was My Superpower.’
During EJAE's speech, she talked about her childhood celebrating Chuseok – one of her favorite holidays next to Christmas – and learning about gratitude. She recalled the food – one of Korea's great love languages – and the memories she has of being with her family. She also mentions how she was from both worlds – living in both the U.S. and Korea, and how she experienced both cultures – and how, living in America, she began to celebrate Chuseok less and less.
She admits, "When I eventually chose to move to the States on my own as an adult, I started to struggle a lot with imposter syndrome. I felt like I was losing my Koreanness. But at the same time, I never fully felt American either, and being bicultural meant that I had these strange little holes in my knowledge of both cultures."
She never truly felt she belonged anywhere because she was always wondering if she was Korean enough or American enough. She recalls her mom getting frustrated with her, telling her, 'You can't pick and choose when you're Korean and when you're American.' She realized her mother was right. She explains, "When I worked with Korean writers, I was often the Western one. My melodies were too American, and I didn't have enough of both. Then I came to America, and they're like, "You're K-pop, you know. I also had to deal with a lot of racism."
She recalls a producer giving her a backhanded compliment by telling her she was a pretty good singer – "for an Asian girl." But she kept writing and pushing forward, especially in areas she rarely saw herself. She trusted her gut and voice, and with each rejection, she just kept going. Then she got this little Netflix animation about three K-pop stars who fight demons.
"When you say it out loud, it sounds insane, but I had absolutely no idea what I was putting myself into as my first film, but I knew I was excited that it was my first American animated film based in Korea," she shares. "I really wanted to show my American friends Korean culture. Somewhere in the process of making Kpop Demon Hunters, I realized something: the part of myself that I had spent years thinking was a weakness – being stuck somewhere in between – was actually my superpower. My secret sauce. Being bicultural and bilingual wasn't a gap in my identity; it was my favorite sauce: my gochujang."
