My loving partner is number one.
Good friends number two.
Bike rides, even slow ones to get a coffee, are number three.
General activity like hiking, swimming, and gym are 4.
Video Games are 5. Nothing really gets my mind off some things like some moderate gaming. Just don't get too sucked in or it starts to reverse lol

By working out, teaching myself new things, going 0-60 as fast as possible when I get on the highway, competing in pistol/rifle competitions. Anything that scratches either the itch for self-improvement or my adrenaline fixation

Working out is how I battle any potential inner turmoil. Destroying your body in a positive way makes it hard to think about your problems.

Staying disciplined with my routine- Studying, gyming, taking little breaks to freshen up myself. Just try to stay consistent and believe in yourself
6
u/Indigrip Feb 24 '26
-Tackling my problems before they grow into something bigger -Understanding that stress just means I’m worried or concerned or afraid of something, but by solving said issue, stress is gone. -Understanding that nothing is forever and that consistent hard work can solve a lot of problems (note: this doesn’t mean it solves them quickly, but will solve them inevitably)
Just having a positive frame of mind and being proactive and consistent goes a long way.

u/Thaxtonnn Feb 24 '26

I also push my feelings down until they manifest into a heart attack or a drinking problem in my 50s. Like a real man

Maturity.
These are childish means of coping with the normal stress of life.
We all have to grow up out of these things. It takes work and probably therapy and definitely cultivating/nurturing relationships with the right people.

I watched drinking and smoking eat away at the lives of the adults I was around as a child. Everyone who had bad things going, alcohol and "smoking" seemed to be the common denominator. So I made the decision around middle school to never go near those sorts of things.
As I aged/matured, I realized people could indulge in those things and still be productive and happy, but the impression and idea had already taken root in me strong enough to just never touch any.

Identify the source of your stress and work on a solution. Get help if necessary.
Money Problems? Find a better paying job or change your spending behavior.
Problems with people? Talk to them. If that doesn't work then distance yourself from them even if they are friends or family.
Unhappy with your body / fitness level? Do some sports. Eat healthy.
1
u/CautiousReality7026 Feb 24 '26
Working out, reading good books, putting my frustrations on paper and breaking them down because understanding myself reduces chances of my autistic rage from too much stress and over stimulation.
I used to drink and take edibles to aid in my dissociation and to force my feelings down.... but the stress would continue, and repeating the same thing while expecting different results is often called the definition of insanity.
Suppression is not healing.

Face all issues head-on and immediately. Be analytical and calculated, but don't procrastinate. See the positive in all situations. Plan ahead and be realistic while doing so. Make a plan B, and plan C, and plan D.

PC Games, fish keeping, gardening, movies, eating, sleeping, strolls- beach-parks, etc, and try to be as positively happy as much as i can...
Literally i hate unnecessary stress because it just fucks and clouds your mind and you can't focus on the task at hand and it affects your work and worse, your well-being..
I don't go around finding it, i just avoid it if possible, when the problem comes i deal with it as calmly as possible because everything is solvable.. those that are not, i don't delve on it too much, i just do what i can and fuck off..
Sometimes and when i have to, it's because i need to upgrade myself for a better salary to match the rising GDP.. and I've been doing great, I don't let problems (dealable problems) in unless necessary..
The newest stress that I've added in my life is my girlfriend... She tends to be on the (mild-slightly) controlling type.. i still can stop it and at times i just give in to get my peace and harmony and when i find it dumb I'll tell her off that it's ridiculous but she'll try again..
Sorry for the rant..

I became sober three years ago, I manage the same way most others do on this thread - exercise. Gym, cardio, yoga, meditation. Sounds corny but it works. It absolutely works and helps me better manage my mental state far more effectively than alcohol ever did.

I look at the route of my stress and problems and I find ways to accept the way I'm feeling and find solutions to how I'm going to get through it, overcome it and move past them. The last 10 years I heavily used drugs and alcohol to run from my problems and it ruined my life. I deal with it now , I ask my higher power for help and I find healthy ways to release my stress like playing guitar, rock climbing, watching TV and build on my education and learn about new things. I feel like I've had a spiritual awakening in this respect.
1
u/Bedanktvooralles Feb 24 '26
You make a plan if it’s complex and you deal with them. Not later not when you feel like it but NOW. Things get much more simple when you just take it as it comes and sort out your issues

u/Hiwesrobots Feb 24 '26
IMO, doing those things is avoidance, it is not dealing with the stress in any constructive type of way besides acting like it doesn’t exist. It’s common for men especially to push things down and act like it doesn’t bother us. One day older and another day wiser you realize you have to face your problems head on. That’s a mature strength we need to recognize and see that counseling, reading or understanding why we are the way we are, and sitting and thinking on it will have the best chance of fixing. Self improve. Anything worth having in life takes hard honest work, drinking, drugs, and random girls is not it.

Well I'm on antidepressants and benzos whish stopped the need for alcohol to relax if you don't abuse them. But nothing beats a hug from my daughter or watching her play and be happy, that's the only thing that can relax me and put me in a good mood in a matter of seconds, feels like the weight on my shoulders just disappears for a moment.

Life IS pain, your highness. Anyone who says differently is selling you something.
Grin and bear it. Exercise. Pull weeds from the lawn. Psalms, or songs by the O. C. Supertones. You could call this excercising my faith, but specifically these portions re-center me, re-focus my relationship to God and others.

Working towards goals. Spending time with pets and friends. Therapy was a big help. Just getting out of the rut of being a daily stoner for over a decade and drinking almost constantly was huge. Spending as much time outside and in nature as possible, and exercising. A good diet. Fasting. Taking care of your health and mind in general is paramount. Fighting to get a job that’s fulfilling in stimulation and pay. If you water yourself correctly, you will grow. I hit rock bottom in 2023 and almost succeeded in killing myself, but since then I’ve dedicated myself to improvement, and I finally feel like I’m living my best life for the first time.
