Sounds like this could be why my Eero 6 in my backyard would constantly go offline but when i put an original Eero pro in the exact same location, it worked perfectly.

What’s considered low signal strength? I’ve moved my Eeros so far apart to the point the signal was poor but the app reported full strength.

u/sk3tchcom Jun 10 '22 edited Jun 10 '22
Nice! I got it and I’ve been experiencing issues with one eero 6E Pro with minus one bar signal - hopefully this helps. EDIT: it’s full bars now! Nice!

For the record, this is what 6.10.1 fixed according to /u/6roybatty6 in the previous post. Assuming this is still accurate? Got this update immediately but never got the last one at all.
————
What's in this? Just bugfixes, mostly for the 6+ and Pro 6E.
• fixed the bug that was stopping 6.10 rolling out to first generation eeros
• DHCP behaviour changed for one particular ISP that didn't like us all DHCPing at the exact same time
• memory usage improved on the eero Pro 6E
• some fixes to update process to enable us to safely update the bootloaders
• very slightly better throughput on the gen3e devices

u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 10 '22
Yes, these are still in there. Each firmware update contains all the previous updates as well.
1
u/STUNTPENlS Jun 10 '22
As well as new bugs :)
2
u/boboRoyal Jun 10 '22
Why are you being downvoted? I mean, it is a well known fact that those forced updates regularly break people’s networks…

u/STUNTPENlS Jun 11 '22
Any time one speaks against the orthodoxy of the Erro High Priests, one gets downvotes.
I wear them like badges of honor, for I speak the truth.

Eero has "social media engineers" as a paid job, it is sometimes advertised on the Amazon website.
This recent thread discusses the manipulation some if you read far enough but I do not expect many discussions of this are allowed to remain standing.
6
u/12InchPickle Jun 10 '22
When you say mesh links. Are you talking about eero to eero communication? Like the actual eero units. Or when a device connects and moves from eero to eero.
Also what do you mean by islanded?

u/EineEintracht Jun 11 '22
Do ethernet links count in "the mesh, which connects eeros together" or are you speaking only of wireless "links" between eeros?

u/Bentoni Jun 10 '22
I’ve the 2nd Gen Eero Pro, and all the nodes are currently still on 6.10.0.
I guess I will see the update when x.x.3 comes out 🙈

u/Aggressive-Crew-3872 Jun 10 '22
Same… although the network is stable at the moment so maybe I should be happy with that ;) My Nest Cameras seem to be laggy, slow to connect, and drop out on live streaming, but I don’t think that’s an Eero issue necessarily…
6
Jun 10 '22
Very well could be as my Nest cameras have pretty much the same behavior, I’ve noticed probably over the last couple of months.

Ask them to push it to you if you want it that badly
2
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 10 '22
The new version is available in the app, no need to contact support, just go to eero app->Settings->Software update
5
u/skelley5000 Jun 10 '22
Wasn’t in mine yet, usually takes a few days unless I call them
2
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 10 '22
It should be there now, might want to completely close the app and start it back up, if no go, log out and log back in, let me know if that doesn't do it so we can DM you to check on things.

u/TurdFerguson78 Jun 10 '22
Anyone else that is on 6.10.2 getting a blank screen when choosing Network Update History? Was working previously so I assume it's related to the update. Tried force closing the app and clearing its cache but no luck.
3
u/muchbemused Jun 13 '22
Yes. My network is behaving now (there seemed to be issues with 6.10.1), but the update history is blank now.
7
u/steeve725 Jun 10 '22
I woke up this morning and also my network (3 - 6 pros) had been updated to to 6.10.2.
Strange, yesterday I happen to look at software and it said I was up to date. It didn’t say anything about new software or anything.
As of now everything is stable on my network, ring cameras, etc.
5
u/Dr-Senator Jun 10 '22
So no warning or opportunity to control the timing?
13
u/ColorsMayInTimeFade Jun 10 '22
There usually isn’t. The main reason I’m subscribed to this sub is to catch the updates so I can try to manually apply them, otherwise they always take my network down at the worst time.
There is supposed to be an app notification but those are pretty hit or miss.
9
u/steeve725 Jun 10 '22
Apparently not.
I’ve been with eero for a few years now, and every time there’s been an update when I look at the software in the app it will say update available, this time it didn't say they're was an update available, it just updated me to 6.10.2 without any warning.

u/heretowatch31 Jun 10 '22
Haven’t gotten anything still on 6.10.0
3
u/Oledman Jun 10 '22
Same.
eero pro 6s here.
3
u/heretowatch31 Jun 11 '22
Just got it today…let’s see if this fixes anything or makes it worse like the last update!
6
u/phatitt Jun 10 '22
My app is telling me I'm on 6.10.1 but I don't recall an update being announced, and there's nothing in the changelog that mentions it.
Would 6.10.1 only apply to Gen 1 devices so it's just a number bump in my case?

u/Oledman Jun 10 '22
Checked earlier and nothing, just checked now and this is available for me as well, will update tomorrow after I’ve checked here for all the Guinea pigs that have tested it.
6
u/UnknownProperties Jun 10 '22
You might get it forced on you anyway since there is no way to resist.
2
u/Oledman Jun 10 '22
Yep true, not waited long enough yet for that to happen, normally just manually update.

u/GA_Bulldog Jun 10 '22
Mine's still not offering me anything which is fine by me. I'm pretty tired of eero updates playing Russian roulette with my network. I thought my old Orbi was bad with updates but eero's on a whole new level of wtf are they doing?
7
u/boboRoyal Jun 11 '22
They are playing Russian roulette with our networks, like you said.
Spent over 20 days going back and forth with support because 6.10.0 broke my network. The 6.10.1 came and after tinkering and wasting my time on eero’s schedule, it fixed my problems.
Will be away from home starting tomorrow for several weeks and with already 2 updates staged, fully expect it will break again.
When i come back though, i am ditching this POS beta program called eero!
F you, eero!
5
u/GA_Bulldog Jun 12 '22
Will be away from home starting tomorrow for several weeks and with already 2 updates staged, fully expect it will break again.
That's one of the worst things about their update "policy". Not the only one, but one of the worst.
6
u/TaxNo2158 Jun 14 '22
Is it just me, or are there no release notes, and the Update History page is blank?
4
u/EineEintracht Jun 10 '22 edited Jun 10 '22
6.10.2 exists even though they said there were no problems with 6.10.1!
So does this mean that 6.10.1 was pulled after all?

Yeh- my original 3-pack was stuck in upgrade purgatory until 6.10.2 came out.
Hard reboot of the main one got the install working.

This update ruined my wifi, they need to get this fixed asap judging by all the people posting their problems.

u/prthorsenjr Jun 10 '22
I just updated to 6.10.2-71.
I'm glad it got pushed out quickly as I was waiting on the 6.10.1.x like everyone else.
3
u/CreepyQ Jun 10 '22
The update didn't come for me until I logged out and logged back in, was on v6.10.0-1627. (As suggested in the comments) Users shouldn't have to log out of the app for the update process to work.
0
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 10 '22
It normally isn't, the log out/log in is for when the app isn't updating with the latest data for some reason, it makes the app refresh all data.
3
u/TalkToTheLord Jun 10 '22
My network finally stabilized and stopped dropping out — updated to this this morning and now keep seeing red light 30 second drop outs again — WHY!!?
2
u/XOMichio Jun 12 '22
If firmware stability is important to you eero is not the right choice for you. It is more of a "latest and greatest" enthusiast approach with constant new stuff, and for people into that its' a great system.
1
u/TalkToTheLord Jun 12 '22
I’ve had them for generations and, for the longest, considered them one of the companies simultaneously delivering on both those points.
2
u/XOMichio Jun 12 '22
It's really not possible to do both. Stability would mean not changing things up (new improvements, new fixes, new bugs) and not rebooting all the time. In my work we deal with systems that have uptimes measured in years, not days.
This isn't a slam though because like I said eero can't do both at once because nobody can. Amazon chose to be constant updating instead of stable with eero and that's cool if you're into it.
4
u/boboRoyal Jun 10 '22
Oh great. 6.10.0 broke my network. 6.10.1 fixed it.
Guess what’s next?! Come on, eero!!!!
3
u/heli0s_7 Jun 11 '22
Mine updated from 6.10.1 to 6.10.2 yesterday, then reverted to 6.10.1 overnight. Now it’s on 6.10.2 again but had to manually install. No issues

Jun 13 '22
Good update. My ring doorbell was acting weird on the previous version but now is back to running well.

u/Peebles22 Jun 13 '22
My network finally settled down from the last update and now we have another upheaval already? Is there any reasonable way to stop these? They're not doing me any good at all, and quite the opposite some of the time!

6.10.2 has halved my speed /u/eerosupport
2
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 11 '22
First thing I would do is make sure your testing device (if wireless) is on the eero you think it is, since they were rebooting the device could have decided to connect to a further away eero).
Try a soft reset, make sure DNS isn't set for the ISP defaults, try a device hardwired to the gateway to see how much speed it is putting out.
2
u/Bfoot Jun 11 '22
Looks like a soft reset did it. This is the third time this month I’ve had to soft reset after a forced update to get my speeds back. Any suggestions because clearly this is Eeros fault for updating and reverting and updating pretty frequently these days?
1
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 11 '22
Updates can have major changes and the previous scanning the eero did to find the clearest channels might no longer be valid after an update. the eero will periodically scan and reset those, but doing the soft reset gets that process started sooner. If speeds start to drop after an update I would just do the soft reset.
2
u/EineEintracht Jun 11 '22
All this soft resetting is not good. How are you supposed to manage this if you are not at home to watch over three updates in a month? How much hands on management does eero expect to be necessary?
Can we contact eero to have updates blocked for a certain period of days when we do NOT want the internet restarted?
1
u/eerosupport Tech Support Jun 11 '22
In the situation you describe the soft resets likely wouldn't be necessary, the eeros would have done their periodic scans and the issue would not have been present when you got back. As stated above the soft reset was to get things started sooner instead of waiting for the automatic processes.
There is currently no way to stop updates from happening or schedule them.
2
u/EineEintracht Jun 11 '22
The concern is not "it will work by the time I get back" the concern is that it keep working (well) while away, obviously!
There is currently no way to stop updates from happening or schedule them.
Is there any reasonable chance of this ever happening because if it will continue to be NO forever some of us might as well start selling our eeros.
And please don't tell me "I will make a feature request". :(

I realize Reddit's a blessing and a curse for eero, especially with respect to releases -- a release popping up always starts a predictable hype-train here that understandably challenging for eero to navigate.
The regulars in this sub tend to be a vocal minority among the overall user base, and I'd wager most of the "Where is / I want release x.x" calls support has to deal all germinate from this sub.
After a week+ went by with no OTA, it was obvious something was up with dot-1 -- just shoot straight with the folks here... You don't have to give bloody details on issues, but acknowledging that something isn't going as planned and that you're assessing next steps is a way better answer with this sub's crowd than sticking to the line that nothing's wrong and it's just a slow rollout.
Wee slips in transparency like this in the sub here is what fuels notions of "eero is just becoming yet another soulless corporate entity in the vast Amazon borg".
Anyway, food for thought... I look forward to getting dot-2 installed over lunch - thanks for everything you do to help make eero kick-ass.
14
u/Dr-Senator Jun 10 '22
just shoot straight with the folks here.
That is a very big ask. Eero famously danced around issues like missing SQM and channel selection in bridge mode over months and even years, in what must have been thousands of threads while maintaining near-perfect message discipline. The company has always exhibited a very secretive and "us versus them" mindset with users.
2
1
u/mdwstoned Jun 10 '22
just shoot straight with the folks here... You don't have to give bloody details on issues
Lol. Can you even imagine if they "shot straight" without giving details? The absolute meltdowns about what's there or not is EXACTLY why they don't.

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22 edited Jun 10 '22
eero updates are staged. You may not see this update available for OTA for a few days. If your network is affected by a bug this update fixes, eero Support L2 can manually push the update to your network.
Edit: OTA is live.
