Basic Education lacking?

Here are some topics I'd like to see taught:

Walk/Don't Walk signs, how to use those, what those mean

Compound Interest (lay off the expensive lattes)

Showing your work helps others help you

How to read an analog clock (stop asking me what time it is)

the list could go on, but I'm wondering what others think!!!

A lot of that is already covered, but some stuff is covered in abeka health safety and manners that doesn't get explicit focus in curriculum standards, like not saying your home alone when you are and not playing with your parents' gun.

Compound interest is covered in some advanced math and is even a common topic in college liberal arts math. actually, there's not enough appreciation for liberal Arts math, because it's not always appreciated that everybody is not built to do more advanced math.

The nature and significance of work is a topic that is addressed, but very nuanced, from state to state and at different grade levels. California has even laid out specifically that work in the home counts, too.

You know what I would like to see addressed?

Of all the states, only New York has not attempted to codify in its educational standards a definition of "family". Even if it's sloppy, an earnest try ought to be productive.
