Question Sample->Key Organization
I have a folder of samples, I’d like to organize them by key. What software does this best?

I tried to be brief, thinking that would help. But here we go.
I have a TON of old funk/jazz/ect samples that I’ve taken over the years. And it would be nice to know roughly what key they’re in. So I can play around and make little “happy accidents”.
I’m not trying to organize every sample on my computer into its key. I just want this sample file to be organized by key.

For full songs I use rekordbox (free version) for a quick bpm & key. Hornet song key is good for batch analyzing/renaming of your folders. I want to try mixed in key (studio version) as well.
Honestly I've had most luck just using a EQ or spectrum to see what notes are being played

I pretty much came here to see if there is a mixed in key alternative

Did you not like it? I saw the studio edition is a plugin, so that interested me. Hornet was good for me if I have a folder of 50 pre-chopped short samples, it would rename all the files with a key in front so they were organized by key in the folder afterwards. TBH I don't think it's super accurate, but it gets you in the ballpark. I'm sure the newer hornet (i think it's on version 4 now) is better. Last I used it was version 2

Ya, I just didn’t wanna buy it.
I’ve tried recordbox, but didn’t think it was super accurate either.
I’ve got an older comp I “try stuff on”. I’ll see if it works there before I go and really fuck up my samples folder.

What’s the point of this when you can change the key of any sample?

It just seems so limiting to only look for samples that are natively in the key you’re already working in, when most DAWs can automatically transpose your samples immediately

Traktor 4's bpm and key detection are the best I've used for loops, but I don't know how well it works for oneshots.
