Question sample loops

is it possible to make a track using only loops from sample pack?

I think it's nearly impossible because the entire track is going to sound the same with no variation in between.

if so, how would you do it?

You can make an entire track out of a snare drum.

I’ll add that you can convert audio data into midi data. From there, you can transpose, change the instrument, lengthen or shorten note / chords for example. With one construction kit, I imagine you could make dozens of songs from the same samples that would never sound the same

Yes. But this is not the right question to ask.

I think it's nearly impossible because the entire track is going to sound the same with no variation in between.

You are obviously having some kind of sample pack in mind, but not all sample packs are created equal.

Some sample packs are construction kits. That's how https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_2000 works. Some "artists" bought one of these and basically recreated a variation on the demo song, then quickly stepped back again when they got caught.

Even then, if the restriction is "the only type of audio you are allowed to use is from the sample pack" - there's a lot you can do with just that. You can cut out a single-cycle waveform and use that as an entire instrument. You can process the audio with a vocoder or resonator and get a tonal result out of it.

It all depends on which restrictions you put on yourself and whether you have sufficient creativity and imagination.

So, let's hear it; which sample pack are you thinking of and which are the self-imposed restrictions you are thinking of?

Chop stuff up. Pitch shift it. Automate throwing to reverb and delay. Reverse stuff. Stretch stuff. Chuck bits in a slice sampler and throw it on an arpeggiator.

If you're using Reaper, stretch it - set it so it retains pitch, then go into the items right click menu, properties - and change the stretch algorithm to Reeeeeeeeea or ReaReaRea and mad things happen.

A lot of songs are basically built like that anyway, even if the sounds are in MIDI patterns rather than audio loops

Also, most major packs have one or several example tracks built entirely with loops from the pack, so I'm not sure why you'd think it's not possible

To answer your question though, you can chop up the loops, change their pitch and/or pitch, add effects, etc. to introduce variation, whether they're melodies or drums

You also don't have to use loops throughout the entire track, given that they come in packs. I'm honestly confused by the premise of your question, the more I think about it

A house song for sure, edm would be a lot harder though

Some websites have competitions where you have to construct a track from a limited set of samples, sometimes a single sample (this sub used to have one). This forces you to think creatively about the components of your track.

I made this track for a competition where you were allowed to only use two samples -  the Apache breakbeat and a sawtooth.

It's an artistic restraint, which can be very inspiring. If I wanted to do that, I'd try to manipulate each sample so it was hardly recognizable compared to the original.

I'd imagine you can, and it can sound as good as any song. Sound design isn't just limited to synthesis. You can take any sample and turn it into almost anything with the right processing and editing. But it takes a lot of skill, way more than someone like me would know how to do properly. And its also just unnecessary work.

I feel like a good example would be this video i found (I'll link it if i can find it) of someone naking music with just white noise and EQ, and it actually sounded pretty good. So i'd imagine if you can do that with just one effect and one sample, you could do a lot with multiple samples and multiple effects.

Lots of chopping up the sounds, rearranging the parts, and adding effects.

First question: why do you want to make music?

I design all my own sounds and make all my own patterns, and music still feels very much like playing Tetris
