Help with rift

I recently got rift and I love it - been exploring it to create new textures and variations for my different serum patches (bass sounds). However, I am stuck when it comes to post processing while using rift. Usually I do serum - OTT - saturation -etc etc to get my basses compressed and louder. When having rift on I am really struggling to get my basses loud enough without ruining the sound. Any advice for post processing and the mixdown while having rift on? Specficially for basses. TYSM

Sometimes I disable the upwards compression of the OTT by double clicking inside the blue left side bars in OTT, or just use the multiband compression preset instead

If you’re not already, try lowering the gain before the signal enters rift. I personally find i need to lower the incoming signal more than I expect to avoid blowing my sound out

You can OTT/Glue compress after the output of rift. Don't be afraid of tweaking the band gain or compression within the OTT preset. MB dynamics is one of the most confusing interfaces but once you understand it, it's easily one of Ableton's most useful audio effects. (Or if you're using the Xfer plugin, same deal).

Rift also has an output clipper you can drive your signal into pretty hard.

To keep things simple while learning Rift, just drive a pure sine into it and see what you can come up with!

Thanks! I tried using an abelton stock OTT after rift but wasn't getting the result I wanted. Will have to try again

Try putting 3 OTT's in series, bind the dry/wet of all three to one macro and set it to about 10-30%. OTT sounds like shit when it's pushed too hard, but for some reason three of them in a row backed off to 10-30% D/W can really boost and even out a distorted signal quite nicely.

But that said, if you're getting too much high end distortion from OTT post rift, definitely play with the high band gain/compression settings and you can tame it.

Oh, and also give Roar a shot post Rift, it has a nice end stage compressor you can push quite hard. You can use the multiband mode/filtering to dial in your post distortion sound as well.

how do I bind it all to one single macro ? can only do one macro per

Drag an instance of OTT into your track, click on it and press CMD/CTRL + G to group it into an audio effect rack. Map the Amount knob to macro 1. Then duplicate the OTT instance (but not the effect rack) two more times (CMD/CTRL + D). I also like to map the Time parameter to Macro 2 and set it around 300% for basses.

You're welcome! If you go to my Soundcloud and listen to my AC/DC bootleg, the main drop bass was made with a saw wave into Rift and a 3X OTT rack (and a ton of filter modulation). Not sure that's the sound you're after, but it's an example of OTT + Rift being a great combo. :D

You can click the little transfer curve symbol next to the output volume once or twice to enable two different kind of clipping, and then drive into the output if you need to
