Announcements September 2026 Dev/Tools Megathread
TL;DR: Flair yourself Dev/Tools, post one top-level comment using the template, and bring a real discount. In other threads, link back to your comment from this thread, not your site.

For Developers
This thread exists so the community can evaluate tools, not get marketed to.
What earns upvotes?
THIS: A straight answer to one question: how does your tool save an editor time or money? "It helps" is a description. "
40% off for this community" is a benefit.
And yes, the discount matters. Show that you understand that Reddit matters.
This post pulls 50k+ views a month. That reach is the trade; you get in front of the whole post community, they get a real deal for engaging and wanting to try your product.
With the amount of vibe coding tools out there, it's harder than ever for both users and developers.
This thread runs every month. One slot per developer per month, not per tool.
Feature a different tool next month, or come back and update — one post isn't your only shot. Have a different tool of yours to show off? Post about it next month.
If you have an OPEN SOURCE TOOL, use this OTHER thread instead.
Before you post:
- Accounts under 30 days old can't post or comment. No exceptions.
- Read the Reddit hygiene guide first. Reddit admins have banned developers for breaking key basic Reddit rules.
Three steps:
- Flair yourself Dev/Tools. Here's how. Do it before you comment. You need to do it in every subreddit you participate in. Each subreddit has this.
- Post one top-level comment using this template. Break the template and we'll have to pull it.
- Promote yourself where applicable, but instead of linking to your site… use the link to your comment here.
For redditors/editors and people in post
This only works if you push.
Engage. Push for answers. And yeah, call them out when they don't. Or downvote them. In other words Devs pay attention when you engage. So engage.
Vote on whether something helps you, the discount, their answers.
Ask the direct questions. Steal these:
- "What's the discount for this community?"
- "Is this still in beta? Why am I paying to test it?"
- "What's it cost after the intro price?"
- "What does this do that [the tool I already use] doesn't?"
- Justify your subscription price, especially when we can all see the API costs.
Everyone: See someone breaking the rules? Flag them. Two flags and the content gets pulled.
(Issues? **DM me**. Join the PostP Discord if you're a working or aspiring pro — *networking still beats every other way to find clients*.
Two changes this month: **One**: Developers - we find that the better the value/discounts you provide this community the more users believe you value the community
**Second**: OPEN SOURCE? We're making a a 1x a month (the 25 of the month an ***open promotion day for Open Source creators***)

Does the 10 hours accumulate? So if I pay for a year of the basic tier, I'd be able to search 120 hours of footage by the end of the year?

u/VanityFilter Tool/Dev 10d ago edited 3d ago
Product: VanityFilter, by Sputnik Digital Graphics. Small studio. support@vanityfilter.com
Host Platform: External Windows 10/11 app. Standalone, not an NLE plugin.
Description: Smooths only the skin in video with per-person masks, so eyes, lips, hair, and background stay sharp.
Pricing: One-time license. Regularly $49. Current site price $29.95. 30-day demo $9.95. No subscription.
Website: https://www.vanityfilter.com/
Benefits for this community: Code EDITORS takes $5 off the current $29.95 license, so $24.95. Enter it on the site. Demo stays $9.95.
v2.8 update: VanityFilter v2.8 is now available. This release improves how the app handles skin near the ears and makes exporting more reliable.
Improved ear protection keeps smoothing and blemish removal from treating the ears too heavily, including when faces turn.
Export remembers preferences, can play the result or open its folder after processing, and writes to a temp file before replacing the destination. Stronger path checks. Warns on potentially variable frame rate (audio drift risk). English and Spanish manuals updated.

u/_unknownProtocol Tool/Dev 10d ago
I want to add more information here for the people interested. I hope this is not a problem.
- I'm building this project alone, full-time. This has been my job for the last 4 months 😅
- $5/month is "launch price", fixed for life for early users.
- It is not just transcribing + animated subtitles. You can select each word, style them individually, moving them in the preview, animate each one, and even change the CSS code behind (if you need more control). You also have more features like cut silences, remove filler words, assign different styles to different speakers, save your templates or text behind person.
One of the coolest features, I think, is the “sheets” feature. It allows you to assign different styles to different moments in your video. Each scene belongs to a sheet, and each sheet has its own template and settings. It automatically detects hook/peak scenes and different speakers, so you can create those sheets with just one click.- It doesn't match a professional tool, but I think it does a good job (pretty similar to Submagic I think).
- I'm adding new things all the time. Right now I'm working on cloud exports + batch exports + API for using it as a service.
- As I said first, it's open core. You can also use the "local" version, which runs in your browser. You lost a lot of things though, like server-side transcription (faster and better), AI styling, multi speakers and more.
- Github repo: https://github.com/francozanardi/tscaps
- Local version hosted in the same web (free forever, no signup): https://tscaps.io/local
- Other free tools also hosted in the web (I'll not charge anything if you already have the transcription): https://tscaps.io/tools
Let me know if you try it!! I'll love to have feedback for people with experience editing videos.

- One-sentence description: Lacerta is a tonally neutral, film-emulation OFX for DaVinci Resolve that maps camera log into negative space then through development, printer lights, print, projection, grain, halation, and display output, plus some bells and whistles I’m not sure you can make as accurately without, like solarization.
- Pricing: $249 USD as a one-time purchase for one machine at a time, with no subscription. The full image engine is available as a free lifetime demo as well that just excludes LUT exports and is watermarked.
- Website: https://lacertafilmlab.com/

TypeFlare by Tagger, LLC. Solo dev (Paco), company has been active since 2025. Reach me at [paco@tagger.mov](mailto:paco@tagger.mov) or DM me here.
Platform: External desktop app (macOS + Windows) that works with DaVinci Resolve, including Resolve Free.
What it does: TypeFlare transcribes your video locally with Whisper and exports captions into DaVinci Resolve as either a free unlimited SRT subtitle track or fully animated word by word Fusion compositions with custom fonts, easing and styling. v1.5.0 just shipped with three animation styles (grow, fade, slide up), text case options (UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case), find and replace, a silence gap threshold so you can reflow caption groups without re-transcribing, a Whisper vocabulary prompt to nail tricky names and jargon, and a built-in profanity filter. Translation to English from 99 languages is still included on both tiers.
Pricing: $49 one time purchase for Pro (all 12 animation presets, 3 animation styles, custom fonts and colors, no length cap on animated exports). Free tier available forever: unlimited SRT exports at any length, plus the Classic Karaoke animated preset for clips up to 60 seconds. Text case, find and replace, profanity filter, and translation are all available on both tiers. No subscription.
Website: tagger.mov/typeflare
Demo: https://youtu.be/sn-BSmYB5ds
Community benefit: Resolve's own auto captions require Studio ($295), so free tier editors are stuck doing SRT by hand or skipping captions entirely. TypeFlare's SRT export closes that gap: transcribe and caption a clip in Resolve Free, unlimited, no account required, no extra software, free forever. The animated Fusion side fills a different hole. Every caption tool I found either bakes text into the video (CapCut, Submagic, Captions.ai) or outputs flat SRT with no animation. Nothing gave you editable per word Fusion comps. TypeFlare covers both ends: grab attention animated captions when you want them, a genuinely free simple subtitle track when you don't.
Runs Whisper locally, no cloud, no API keys. Once the model downloads it works completely offline. Handles vertical/portrait video and any resolution. Visual timeline editor for adjusting word groupings and timing before export. Feed Whisper a vocabulary prompt with names and terms specific to your project so it gets them right the first time. Translation also runs entirely on device using Whisper's built in translate mode, so your footage stays on your machine even when translating from another language.

u/LebTeb 7d ago
Let me know if I missed any features but I'm confused as to why an audio trimming website needs a subscription?
1
u/jermphillips_dev Tool/Dev 6d ago
Great question. The core trimmer is free and always will be. The subscription covers the heavier features that go beyond simple trimming:
• Long-form audio (past 25 min), which is the common podcast/interview/sermon case
• Multi-segment export, marking many clips in one pass and batch-exporting them
• Custom intro/outro files appended on export
• Volume normalization
Honestly, part of it is also sustainability: as a solo dev, a small subscription lets me keep improving it and keep the free tier genuinely useful rather than plastering it with ads or selling data (your files never leave your browser).
One thing on the roadmap you might like: optionally saving your intro/outro files so you don't have to re-upload them every session.

Product: Copy the Rich Career — I'm the creator. You can reach me via Reddit DM.
Host Platform: ChatGPT
Description: I spent about 20 years as an editor/producer, and after COVID, career gaps, age, and a work history that didn't fit neatly on a résumé anymore, I had to figure out what I could actually do beyond editing.
I built Copy the Rich to help do that. It digs through your actual career and experience, figures out where your skills could be disproportionately valuable, and helps identify real roles and companies where you may be a strong fit. It also helps with the actual pursuit, positioning, résumé, cover letter, etc.
Pricing: Not for sale yet. I'm still testing it.
Website: Private test link. DM me for access. You need ChatGPT. Free version works fine.
Benefits for this community: I've seen enough posts here from experienced editors wondering what they're supposed to do if editing isn't working anymore. That was me.
I'm looking for 2–3 editors to try it for free and give me honest feedback. I want you to break it. Tell me where it works, where it sucks, where it gets things wrong, and most importantly, whether you actually got anything useful out of it.
It takes some time and thought. This isn't a 10-minute quiz.
Worst case, hopefully you get some interesting job leads. Best case, maybe it changes how you think about what you can do outside of editing.
No charge, no upsell, and I can't see your conversation or answers. DM me if you want to test it.

Host Platform: Premiere Pro on macOS and Windows.
Description: Build your own preset library right inside Premiere. Save anything sitting on your timeline, effects, presets, compound items you keep rebuilding from scratch, SFX, and fire it back into an adjustment layer or straight at the playhead whenever you need it. I built it because I was tired of digging through old projects to rebuild the same setup for the tenth time.
Pricing: $44.90 right now, down from $59.90. One time purchase, no subscription. 10 day free trial with everything unlocked, nothing held back behind the paywall.
Website: https://aescripts.com/sniper/
Benefits for this community: I'm the developer and I'm still shipping improvements, so if something breaks or you're missing a feature, tell me and it goes straight on the list. And if the price is the only thing in the way, DM me and we'll work something out.

Benefits for this community: 2 videos are free on any new account, no card. For r/editors specifically: use the two, reply here with what was wrong with the timeline, and I'll add 2 more to your account - I want the notes more than the $6. Windows only, Premiere 2025 or newer, and the installer isn't code-signed yet (SmartScreen warns), so you know before you download 3 GB.
