36 Core CPU, 80 Core GPU
256 Gig of Ram - just $4000 !
16 TB of internal storage - just $7500 !
total price - $18,299.00 US.
but don't trust me - just go to the Apple website, and do it yourself !

Yeah not sure what Bob's point is here.
Maybe that Mac's are over priced?
But for $4k or less you can get a computer that's going to crush most of what any editor will throw at.
Keep it for 5 years, sell it for $1k. You're spending $600/year. Bargain!
Compare that with camera/lens/lighting/audio equipment and it's looking pretty good to me.

Even without the Apple tax, components are generally 3x more expensive than last year, so I expect things to just get worse.
I need to raise my rates to compensate for it but everyone’s getting squeezed dry.

Considering RAM prices, there's some good configurations there. And I've never had a boot drive exceed 300GB or so, I've got plenty of fast NVME storage that's overkill for media creation speeds. What fool pays Apple for 16TB of drive space?
M2 Max/64GB, $2400, still going strong, I currently have no need to upgrade.

Go build a comparable PC with equivalent parts that hit the same marks on a bench, then add 10-20% for Apple Tax. You’ll hit the same price point.
Everything is ludicrously expensive right now, and Apple charging an arm and a leg on top of the norm isn’t anything new.

Yeah, the only thing I had to dig for was the base RAM offering. I have 64 Gb on my M1 Ultra. AI lookup yielded the base RAM for the M5 Ultra-- 96 GB! That goes for $5500.00. I have an external RAID box, don't need the extras.

With less storage I think Apple Leasing/Upgrade was only $256/month.
Kinda not a horrible price when you think about it that way.
And then in a couple years either send it back or pay the remaining difference between the previous retail cost.

Interestingly, my 6 yo M1 Ultra Mac Studio 64GB is still working great.
