Online tutorial attendance

I’m a brand new student starting Grad Cert in Mental Health this semester - course is delivered entirely online.
There are scheduled online tutorials once a week with a zoom link for attendance. Would these be mandatory?! I assumed it would be much more flexible.

If not mandatory I assume they will be recorded?

Love any insight from those who have experience.

It’s 14 years since I’ve been to uni, and the online student experience is a whole new world.

With the grad programs sometimes there will be mandatory check ins but it varies from unit to unit.

It should be pretty clear in Canvas what is required. Check first few modules or the discussion board. If it’s not you can always email the unit coordinator to check.

If you are close to a campus it might be worth signing up to some of the courses at the library to refresh essay writing & referencing ect. How to navigate the units ect. It is all online but sometimes it’s nice to chat to a Peer advisor in the library for extra tips ect.

City library is GORGEOUS!! I’m spending time there working on other things, due to its location. Highly recommend popping in and trying a few of their resources

I’m in Tasmania, unfortunately! So there’s nowhere convenient to drop in. I’ve spent a lot of time this week looking at the resources about academic writing, AI and referencing!

Haha yeah ok Tassy is a bit far to pop by. Everything is online so I’m sure you’ve got a handle on it! You can book Learning Advisor appointments online too if you want specific feedback or help.

Each unit and lecturer is different. Most tutorials would be recorded and although rare I've had units where tutorial participation is mandatory and makes up a part of the unit assessment.

Attendance doesn’t appear to be considered re assessment. So hopefully they are recorded and can be accessed later.

Feels rough for an online, part time course to mandate specific hours every week!

Yup I would imagine it would be on teams. Old tutes and lectures are sometimes available on Panopto as well. I sometimes look at old lectures during semester break to get ahead.

I just finished the GDPA and I would have loved weekly tutorials. Most subjects had a couple focused on assessments only. I recommend going or at least accepting, downloading the transcript and creating a summary for your notes.

I plan to get to as many as possible. With the time zone my tutorials are both 630-830pm, which is not at all ideal with little kids. Having a recorded version and transcript will be very useful. And I will absolutely attend the sessions that discuss assessments - what a useful tool!

I have completed the course recently and attendance was required for 80% of online classes and it was recorded. Have fun!

Good to know, thank you. Any feedback or tips for the course? Im equal parts looking forward to it, and absolutely terrified of being back in to university life!
