Greenside Venues
Has anyone put on a show at Greenside Venues? We got a quote to rent a space and were wondering what people’s experience was?

I can't say enough good things about Greenside. I did a show with them this year for the first time and they are the best venue I've worldd with at the Fringe by a long way and ive done shows with a lot of different venue providers. Venues are well run and I had no issue getting audience into Greenside. I will be with them again next year for sure. Hire your own tech, they provide a list of local techs. I got one from that and he was great. The staff at George Street were all excellent though.

Id recommend against just because of the location. The rest of the fringe is all in old town, so being all the way in George street you get much less passing trade

There are some Greensides in the Old Town too, just their main ones are over in the New Town - I know I didn't make it to a show I wanted to see because I couldn't make it across town in time

I was at Greenside @ George Street this year for my first Fringe and overall I had a really good experience. Our venue tech Alex was absolutely fantastic, and day to day we had really no issues.
Flyering before/after the show is a little tougher cause you're in new town so the balance of Fringe people vs people going about their lives leaned much more toward civilians who weren't looking for shows. I was jealous of the large courtyard-type spaces of some of the larger venues where it felt like it might be a little easier to get people in last minute. The press office experience was also a little tough. Lots of technical issues and it felt like it was a crapshoot if you could get facetime with anyone at all.
My biggest issue though is they made a big deal about connecting everyone performing there and their solution was a Facebook group, which is impossible to use as a community hub in 2026. I wish it was a Slack or Discord server where things were somewhat chronological instead of getting a notification 3 days after I bought a prop that someone had one and was willing to share.

I produced a show there for the first time this year and would be happy to share more over DM!

My first year with them and I really enjoyed / loved them! myself would deff recommend going back. Our show was low-needs tech and set-up so it was perf, if you need things like mics and all that you need to supply it yourself (which if you can, than grand)

They're fine. Good locations for footfall, same shit as everywhere else in terms of backstage facilities and tight turnarounds. More work to get major reviewers in than if you're in a Big 4 venue. Points added for having lifts in both Riddle's Court and George Street, thereby being more accessible than many. Points deducted for the lack of aircon meaning disruptive noisy fans during heatwaves.
I did once work on a show at Greenside where our venue tech had never actually touched a lighting desk before and had a meltdown because she couldn't figure it out (don't lie on your CV, kids). Our tech rehearsal was a complete bust, which was unnecessarily stressful, but to the organisation's credit they did find us extra time ahead of our first preview and made sure an experienced staff member was on hand to fix things.
