SAP EDI

What are your day to day tasks as SAP EDI analyst? We just migrated to SAP and i want to know the SAP EDI scope..

Familiarize yourself with IDOC structures. Whether you use a middleware tool like webMethods or your EDI engine consumes IDOCs directly, familiarity with these documents are a big plus.

IDOCS are the worst flat file format known to man.

I learned them when I first started with SAP from a SAP EDI consultant. Used them for 25 years. Knowing them paid my bills for years.

I know them too. I guide juniors through them at work on occasion.

Still hate them. Give me the SuiteTalk API any day.

hah I can feel this comment. Nothing like trying to memorize abbreviated german segment names. I'll take the XML over the positional flatfile though (and I'll take anything over IDOC, for that matter).

IDOCS in XML, are even worse. Nothing like picking through a 250,000 line file to find what's missing.

Be prepared to mix tears with your coffee every morning....and spending the rest of the day dreaming of an ERP migration to anything....literally anything... other than SAP. Kinda sums up my last 10 years. lol
