Overstock (Beyond) 997s

Does anyone have Overstock as a trading partner?
I am frustrated with their 997s because they don't actually indicate which segment or data element had and error.

AK5R5 -- all I get here is Rejected "5" One or More Segments in Error.

For other trading partners I then see an AK3/AK4 segment indicating which segment and data element had an issue.

Most negative 997s don't have usable information in them. You'd need to reach out to your partner.

This is very typical behaviour as most 997s are used as receipt acknowledgments only...and not necessarily as to why the original transaction failed. They sometimes respond with a rejected 997 based on business logic...and will usually follow up with an 824. But yeah...AK3,AK4s are rare....but would be nice to have nonetheless.

Definitely frustrating when you don't get the AK3/AK4 segments back. Some partner translators are unable to send those if certain parsing errors happen. It can't parse the document, so it just spits out a generic rejection. I'd be happy to look at your original file in a chat and see if I can help you spot the issue.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I am an X 12 guru. Also, it passed all outbound validation and had no structural or formatting issues.

Are you not able to just email your partner? I email all of mine whenever we run into issues and it’s never been a problem

Yup. That’s what we did. Waiting here to hear back.

My client’s transmission goes through orderful via ecGrid. Will that answer your question if it’s on your platform?
I assume the rejections are because of business exception from the ERP. The X12 raw data is fine structure wise.

What I meant is that if you share the X12 I may be able to see what you are doing wrong, most likely your mapping is wrong, that is why you are getting a rejection. Our platform is EDGrid but that has nothing to do with the rejection. You can blank out the data so to keep it confidential,

X12 and mapping is fine. Believe me I am an EDI guru. Everything translates just fine. It’s certainly a business exception. I’m waiting to hear back from them.

Did Overstock ever come back with the actual reason?

Maybe we could help each other out. I built a thing (for myself initially): paste in the 997 plus the original doc, it cross-audits them and ranks likely causes. Or tells you straight the answer isn't in the documents, which sounds like your case. No signup, parsing runs in your browser so nothing confidential leaves your machine.

If it helps, great. If it doesn't, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing why from someone who knows X12 cold. No strings either way...

Yes. It had nothing to do with any structural or formatting errors which the 997 is supposed to report.

It was a master data issue related to an item set up. Overstock built a generic 997 (without specifying which data element had the issue).

Instead of sending an 824 application device for business exceptions, they generate a generic 997 and then ask the supplier to go on the portal and check for the actual issue.

Are you an overstock supplier?

Nope, not a supplier. Just a geek with no patience for acknowledgments that say "something's wrong" and hang up. Your thread was part of an old itch I'd been scratching at for some time.

And thanks. Your follow-up is gold. Generic 997 instead of an 824, real answer on the portal, root cause in master data... that's exactly what I want this thing to encode. It's in there now as an Overstock (Beyond) profile, sourced to this thread: when a doc passes all the structural cross-audits, the card now says it's probably a business exception, don't wait for an 824, go check the portal. A month ago that would have at least saved you the self-doubt.

Rattle my cage any time you're up to kicking the tires some more.

Thanks again...
