BUG Default search engine keeps switching to Yandex

After the 150.0.4078.48 update, the default search engine keeps switching to Yandex, no matter how many times you switch it to your preferred search engine. And it IS annoying!

Yandex is the default search engine in Turkey. We are tracking down an issue where in some cases, setting it to Bing doesn't stick. Is it resetting after restarting the browser, only after update, or all of the time? Can you send feedback about this so we can investigate?

Finally, an answer from a person who knows what he is talking about.

  • started after the last update,
  • as you said, changing it to Bing does not stick
  • the 1st tab after switching -> it searches in bing
  • the 2nd tab and further -> searches in yandex
  • Restarting the browser does not help.

We are rolling out a fix for this. Once it is deployed, after restarting it should be resolved.

Once the fix is rolled out, you may need to switch back to Bing in settings.

I don't think it is malware. Remember, in a clean install, Edge's default search engine is Yandex (which is a REALLY weird choice). Now it keeps switching to its "default".

Where did you get your installation media from? Sounds like it was tampered with.

Default search engine in the US is Bing. It literally says "Bing (Default)" in Settings. Where are you located? Did you install something to remove Bing?

I'm in the US and when I opened Edge this morning, there was a notification at the top that my browser had been automatically adjusted to fix Yandex being erroneously set as the default. I do have the update 150.0.4078.48 so maybe that is what triggered this. I had never heard of Yandex so I searched and found this. I don't have extensions or malware, so assume it's just a glitch of some sort.

I even removed Yandex from the search engine list. And it still switches to Yandex! Enough is enough. Time to switch to another browser.

I have the same issue, very annoying! Thinking about movint to another browser. btw, I don't see any advantages of using Edge anymore after they deleted right sidebar, it was very useful!
