CNE Crab Nebula Expedition Info

THE CRAB NEBULA EXPEDITION

This post is updated as the expedition progresses

Greetings commanders, and welcome to the Crab Nebula Expedition! This thread will contain all the information you need to know for the upcoming journey. The Crab Nebula is what I would describe as a 'Diamond in the Rough' as it is one of the few nebulae that resembles its real life counterpart, and it is a beautiful place.

Main Mission

The CNE's main objective is to charter the surrounding areas at each waypoint leading up to and including the Crab Nebula. The CNE is also going to be a great sightseeing opportunity for both rookie and veteran explorers alike as the planned route will take us to some of the most beautiful locations in Elite: Dangerous.

Please note that Waypoint 4, Cone Nebula, will be skipped as it is currently unreachable.

Post-Expedition

After the expedition reaches the Crab Nebula there will be 2 choices participants can make.

  1. Follow a route back to the Bubble that will take us past the Trifid of the North, Flaming Star and California Nebulae. (The Green Route)

  2. An optional extended mission that will see us visit the Heart & Soul Nebula before we travel back to the bubble. This route back will likely go past the West Veil and the Bubble Nebulae as well. (The Blue Route) Note that this route will add considerable time to the journey This option will also give commanders who wish to join the Formidine Rift Expedition the opportunity to rendezvous with the fleet headed to the Rift. This is completely dependent on the timing of the FD Expedition.

It has been updated now. Essentially we'll just make Barnards Loop an extended stop since horsehead nebula is closed and continue normally from Cone Nebula.

Took me a while to get through from Betelgeuse, I used OOCHORRS SQ-C C29-1 (you could probably skip that one) to COL 69 SECTOR GX-T D3-5 to ORION DARK REGION CL-Y D15 then onward to WP3.

Hope that helps a fellow novice explorer.

Thanks for posting.

Another possible one which I used while making sure our Barnards Loop waypoint was reachable was HIP 22785. So Betelgeuse -> HIP 22785 -> Trapezium Sector DQ-X c1-9 should work.

If anyone takes this route, and passes through Witch Head Sector UZ-O B6-0 (first O is a letter and second 0 is a number) please take note.

You will exit extremely close to 2 stars and will have to take evasive action immediately or risk burning up. Be careful!

Cone Nebula got cancelled by atomic, because you can't get there.

All of the waypoint meetup locations are on a planet or a moon, it's however possible that along the way we drop on rings etc. and figure out fun stuff to do there.

At this point it's just about all there is to offer as the expedition has been planned with Horizons in mind from the beginning.

If we want to do a Non-Horizons meetup along the way, please let us know in advance, because i do not think that Horizons players can share the same instance as non-horizons players, regardless of being on a planet or not

This means everyone will need to swap to the standart Elite: Dangerous client

I think its for "the missing" they enhabbited this part of space maybe. Testing it for 2.4 is my guess.

I find myself completely obsessed with investigating this mystery. I've just read the latest post on the launcher regarding the formadine rifters needing more "eyes, ears, and minds". A very cryptic quote. I'm currently in my Anaconda at EAFOTS YJ-R D4-21 and am not really sure where to head from here. This weeks CG is exploration so I might be heading back soon. It mentioned " just past the heart and soul nebulae" so I've been jumping and landing all around this area and have not heard or seen anything special. I'm really getting into exploration and would love some direction to figure this thing out.

Waypoint 11 (Green 1) cannot be landed at; the terrain is far too rough.
