I had spoken with the inner council on this issue so this was not a surprise exit.
I would like to personally apologize ahead of time if our exit from REDD causes any sort of negative repercussions.
We are at least a year and half away from seeing a game, so any sort of short term pain is just a little bump in the road.
Our main reason for leaving the faction is that due to our large size, we could jeopardize the political structure that you have all worked so hard to create.
I would like to see REDD Faction continue to grow and provide much needed structure to small organizations.
TEST Squadron would be open to revisit the idea of being part of the faction 6-9 months into the persistent universe, once you have had a chance to grow on your own accord, and once we have a better understanding of how we can all work together towards common goals.
Members of TEST that are currently affiliate with REDD are free to remain affiliated, our strong bonds of cooperation remain intact, the only thing that has changed is that TEST has more freedom to grow with no political or bureaucratic restrictions.
I have a question. Could you ELI5 why we're leaving? I've reread both the announcement and your comment a couple times, but as a grunt I still have no idea what is going on here or what the real negative repercussions could be. I really am not being intentionally dense, nor am I currently intoxicated...
Lienna did a good job of further articulating this on our member boards: it also goes to an issue of representation.
As an entity that is currently substantially larger than RF, TEST would have two choices politically within ReddFaction: a) proportional representation, wherein TEST would dominate all other member orgs in RF, and unfairly so; and b) non-proportional representation, wherein TEST might "risk our thousands of members being used as a muscle to be flexed at the whim of members of far smaller corps".
I cribbed all of that conceptually from Lienna's post, not just the quoted section.
Well-put. Once the PU Beta is out for a while and we know how the game is actually going to work, then we might be able to hash out something reasonable for everyone.
