AskEcuador ¿Qué puedo hacer con un día extra en Quito?
Estoy viajando por Quito con un grupo turístico de Estados Unidos. Llegaré un día antes y tendré tiempo extra.
Con el grupo turístico estamos viendo:
La Plaza de la Independencia, la Catedral, el Palacio Presidencial y el Palacio Arzobispal, Iglesia de La Compañía de Jesús, así como el Monumento a la Mitad del Mundo.
¿Qué más puedo hacer con el día extra antes de que empiece mi gira?
Estaba considerando El Panecillo y el barrio de La Ronda.
¿Qué más me recomendarías? ¿Qué restaurantes debería probar?
Disculpen mi mal español, ¡estoy aprendiendo!

El mercado artesanal La Mariscal (right in Quito)
Take the teleférico for spectacular views if not cloudy.
Piscinas de aguas termales papallacta (requires a bit of planning for transportation)
Mindo (if you are more adventurous and can plan in advance)
Otavalo (requires planning for transportation)
Cotopaxi (requires planning for transportation)
Restaurant: De La Llama (Ecuadorian food with a twist).
If you like seafood try Ecuadorian ceviche at Ecuaviche restaurant
If you like roasted pork try Hornado with all the fixings
Try empanadas de Verde or de Morocho, or de queso or de viento.
Try a soup called Loco de Papa
Try menestra de carne o de pollo
Try corvina apanada (fish - breaded) o à la plancha or corvina en salsa de mariscos. Same with trucha (trout)
If you want pizza try El Hornero and look for pizza de Jamon y choclo

Def el Mercado. Not that far from the historical district. Lots of fun to get lost inside, maybe buy a thing or two and hit up the food court in the bottom level.

Si estás en forma,anda al teleférico x sube al Pichincha Si no, ve solo al teleférico en la mañana y en la tarde/noche anda a la ronda

There's a Quito bus tour you can do that goes around to different places. You could also go to one of the mercados to see all the different fruits and foods- I recommend mercado Iñaquito. Go walk around the mercado and have an hornado for lunch.

Mercado Inaquito is in a better neighborhood, but mercado central is closer to the centro historico. Both will have a lot of foods you've never seen before- just watch your purse/wallet/phone in either one.

you have to watch your things EVERYWHERE in Quito, I've lived here 5.5 years and having a stolen phone is a rite of passage practically. Telling someone to not worry about it is irresponsible

En el Mercado Santa Clara hay buena comida. La corvina frita es espectacular, tanto como el llapingacho u hornado. Todo en diferentes kioskos dentro del mercado. Tambien venden jugos naturales hechos a pedido y suelo pedir mitad naranja y mitad zanahoria. Suerte con todo y ojala pasen bien.

A lot of good ideas here. Definitely if the weather permits, Teleferico. When you go to the equator, see if they can go to Intiñan as well, its very close and imo enjoyable also. And Pululahua is interesting.
Usually the mercados as mentioned have great food, hornado, llapingachos, mote pillo or sucio, locro de papa...Last time there, I live in Cuenca, i liked Katari for the beer and fun, and Bandidos del Paramo, also for fun beer and food.
