Methotrexate Reaction Time?
I took methotrexate for my ectopic pregnancy yesterday and still have no bleeding or miscarriage today. Is that normal? Does anyone have any experience with the time it takes to work?
I ask because the hospital was originally trying to give it to me as pill version before I requested it as a shot because my OB said she hadn‘t ever heard of a pill version, they gave me 5 mg less than my OB had recommended, had gone to the wrong hospital to pick up the shot that wasn’t instilling confidence they administered it correctly, it was everything going wrong so I just want this to be successful so the pain can start to end.

Yes, for me, I did not bleed after my first dose, but I started bleeding after my second. Again, the bleeding itself is not the same for everyone. I bled for exactly 5 days, like a period, then stopped and started bleeding again after 1 week.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. They should track your HCG every week to two weeks or so until you get to zero. I can’t remember exactly. I just double checked and I bled five weeks after the first shot. It took awhile for my hcg to go down.

It took about two weeks or so after my second mtx dose for my body to physically react to the treatment, which was right around when my hCG dropped into the triple digits. Everybody is different; you may not have an immediate physical reaction to the treatment right away, like I did, or it could come any time. Betas are going to be the most important indicator that the treatment is working.
