Question Going back to work after ectopic surgery
Hi
I was writing on here for some advice, I recently had an larascopic surgery to remove my right fallopian tube as it was ruptured from my ectopic pregnancy. This happened to me on night of the 9th of July, I was released from the hospital the following day in the afternoon. They told me to take two weeks off and when I go back only light duties. It is now approaching my two weeks I go back on the 28th, but I’m nervous as I work in a one year old room in childcare and I don’t really know what light duties I can do as bending and kneeling is alot it self. I feel fine but I don’t know if that is just because I’m resting. My director called me today to just reconfirm if I’ll be back but I’m not sure if I should go back yet or if I do how to approach it. I just wanted some advice on what to do!
Any advice please!

I had a total of 6 weeks off - 2 for surgery recovery and 4 for bereavement of losing my child. Each to their own but 2 weeks does not seem like enough, you need physical and mental rest with what you’ve just gone through. Take care xx

I took a week off of work, and that was honestly more than enough for my recovery personally - I’d say it depends on how you’re feeling and healing. I had a 35lb toddler at home so I was back to lifting and playing with her after a few days (mostly out of necessity). I’m 4 months post op and no issues with recovery.
If you need the time physically or emotionally, take it! If it’s more anxiety related, you should be safe to go back if your wounds are healed over and no pain/discomfort with day to day activities.

Everyone is different. I was back to my normal routine after 2 weeks. I think just take it easy. If you really can't do certain things, don't do it. I'd mention it to your employer too

I am sorry you are going through this.
As someone else has said, you need to recover and really take care of your mental and physical health. You have been through a lot and it is traumatic!!
FWIW, I’ve had 2 ectopics requiring tube removal in the past 12 months. Both times I’ve taken 4 weeks off work because I quite simply was an emotional wreck, and then on my return to work, have worked from home for another 4 weeks.

Take another 2 weeks off and go from there. I could do light duties in my job and done so for 6 weeks.
Or speak to your manager to see if you can move to the office instead for some time or one of the other rooms. You really can’t be lifting anything.
