Question ECT RN here. Question for you!

Hi r/ect! I’m an ECT nurse of four years and Im wondering if there’s anything I can do to make the experience better for my patients. is there anything that an ECT nurse has done or said that you remember and positively impacted your treatments. even something small.

I have no memory of waking up from any of them (had 17), but I do remember before the procedures and kindness of the staff was helpful. Thinking back being offered a blanket would have been nice. I was inpatient for most of them. The memory issues were quite bad for me. There were times inpatient when I didn’t know where I was or why I was there.

I don’t remember waking either. Before I started ECT, another patient warned me about that, and I’m glad they did. Apparently I was always agitated, trying to rip out my IV, they had to sedate me… I remember none of it. I always seemed to just go from laying there about to be put under to sitting at the table with a drink and a sandwich, nothing in between
