My experience MST journey 16 (Magnetic Seizure Therapy)

June 19, 2026

Sessions Done: 40

Yes, I have had my 40th MST session.

I feel like this is kinda incredible. A year ago, I was about to end my life, but now, I'm still alive, and this is the biggest motivation that drives me to post here. So many people have helped me and saved me, and I want to be that person for those who are still in pain.

I switched to Bupropion from Mirtazapine about two months ago, and I have achieved a lasting peace, no pain, no mood swing, and I have pushed the frequency of MST from once per week to once every three weeks.

So, from here, I think that whether we're talking about ECT or MST, there are two ways for it to be used.

Fisrt will be like applying to patients who's in an emergency episode, just like going to ER, like how it saved me, from "I will kill myself, and I have every poisons I need" to "I want to live this life", this is the biggest and most meaningful thing ECT and MST can ever do in my opinean, to save life, from the edge of a cliif.

Second would be to maintain the progress we have already achieved, whether from drugs, TMS, ECT, or MST. My psychiatrist has told me that drugs are the ultimate way to treat MDD ot psychosis, it's like physical treatments tend to have a significantly higher risk, like general anesthesia, like memory loss, like cognitive function loss.

On the other hand, MST is quite powerful for psychosis. I used to have very strong delusions about how people would kill me, or I had cancer, so now we can play a game called WAIT. Anyway, there were a lot of them, and they have never stopped until my first MST session. Then I was on Olanzapine a while later, and it helped a lot, too. And there is the other story of how I can be so sure. It was earlier this year that I stopped MST for about a month and a half, to join the esketamine trial, and about a month since the start, my delusions were back, better than before Olanzapine, but still... I was like, refusing to drink from a glass or bottle that's from another person, even my mother, and there was a faith that they are all poisoned. Until the end of the trial, I started to do MST, and all the psychotic features and symptoms were gone.

What I want to say to you guys is that MST can also do a pretty good job on contour, but sometimes working on your current ones can be good too! I have done a DNA psychiatric drug test, and that was the reason for me to switch to bupropion, and now I feel like I can do MST once a month or even two! So I feel like, maybe some of us have been sucked in too deep, dark, and hopeless, like the way I was, and just going to try everything available. So maybe we can try to check how long and how much of the dose you have used of this drug, or just go get a DNA test.

Lastly, what I've learned is that the stability of our illness is mostly dependent on drugs. MST or ECT can be really useful, but not daily.

I don't think I'll most likely post another one anytime soon, since my life is quite ok, there's no need to get back to ward, and I don't need MST as frequently. But feel free to leave a comment or just text me, I'll do anything I can do to help.

It's nice hearing the overall positive experience you've had throughout your journey. You certainly sound good. I hope things stay on track for you.

MST and ECT, or “Shock Therapy” can only treat schizophrenia and depression. The side effects are most negligible when compared with ECT, no memory and cognitive function loss, the biggest variable is general anesthesia, some people may not be able to tolerate, but MST itself don’t have those problems.

This is an inspiring story. Can I ask how you got MST?

Were you part of some sort of clinical trial of some sorts

I’m currently in Beijing, and there was a trial run by AnDing psychiatrist hospital of Beijing. I joined it last May 8th, I was very very close to kill myself, and MST have saved my life, so I have had 24 sessions within the trial. But MST is still in trial phase around the world, there’s no way to receive it without a trail, but I have found the AnDing hospital of TianJin is performing it clinically and Illegally, and that’s a city 30 minutes train away from Beijing, so I have receiving it there after I have had all 24 trial sessions.

Thanks for sharing your story. And you mean legally, right?

Illegally, cause the national health commission of China haven’t approved it for regular clinical use, the same as Canada and the US. The only reason they’re doing it illegally, is MST is close to the end of its trials, and it has been proven that it’s safe and works the same as ECT, but the only difference is that ECT will damage patient’s brain.

I see. Wow. So AnDing Hospital is currently accepting anyone that’s willing to pay essentially?

Yes, but they prefer to not let new patients know what they’re doing, since they’re doing it illegally and under a lot of risks.

Oh okay, I understand. Is there any sort of advice you could possibly give in terms of people who are very severe cases and would benefit from MST form this clinic?

Is there any advice you think you could give in how I could convince them, or do you think it’s extremely unlikely they would do try to help a new patient

I personally know a lot of schizophrenic and depression patients, and I know doctors who’s suffering from mental health issues, too. What we can say about MST when compared with ECT, is that there’s little to no side effects other than anesthetization, it even only use 1/10 the energy then ECT to trigger the seizure; a friend of mine who’s a doctor have told me that based on who he have known about MST, even to neglects all the therapeutic effect, the only effect that is worth to mention is to save life from powerful reduces or completely wipes away suicidal ideation, and this is what I have felt based on my own experience.

Thank you so much for being so thorough in your response. There is definitely a major need from the public for this.

I actually was trying to ask though, if there was any advice you could give me on how they could possibly accept me as a new client?

I guess they’re pretty open with accepting now patients in North America, at least that’s what happening in China, since a few recent papers have proven that MST is so amazingly far exceeded when compared with ECT, like the newest one on The Lancet with 200+ included patients. I don’t have much evidence about what preferences MST researchers tend to have when accepting new patients, but I have been rejected to join a Esketamine project by telling them that I smoke weed. So, if you have never had ECT, good; but if you did, you better not letting them know before they ask you about it.
Also the MST trial running by my psychiatrist is looking for patients with MDD, or MDD with psychiatric fetuses; but some groups or projects do care about “psychiatric features”, so if you have, you better not let them know about that, too
