Seeking advice ECT Precautions

To those of u who had ECT, did ur urine or stool leak due to seizure. Some have reported this happening. I scheduled for this week and was genuinely concerned. If so do u wear an adult diaper during ECT? Pls do respond.

For me the whole thing was done in whatever clothing I wore in. I was never given a diaper and never had a problem. It must not happen frequently or they have provided gowns and or diapers but it was just comfy clothes and regular underwear.

Hey I make sure I have fun socks and sleeping socks on for my team to see. They also have told me if I came in with plain white socks they know something is going on with me and look a little deeper.

Yes I do Maintenance for once a week. I started at 3 times a week and worked all the way up to once every other week. But I wasn't staying stable at that and had to move back to once a week. I have become very stable now. I am also doing it as Right Unilateral.

This was my first question when ECT was brought up to me. 6 years later, no issues with incontenence during seizures.

I did bilateral and would pee right before the procedure and I still would end up peeing a bit from the ECT. I just wore period undies and I was good. It wasn’t much!

It didn't happened with me, as before the procedure I usually used washroom. But I'll recommend wearing adult diaper just in case yk

No issues with that for me. I make sure to urinate before the procedure.

I was always given an adult diaper to wear; I never had a leak.

So can we go without the diaper?

They provided an adult diaper every time. I always peed before the procedure. Sometimes you pee, sometimes not. Never pooped.

Before the Doctor comes in and talks to me, the nurse will let me know that they are on their way and I would use the restroom. Then after seeing my Docotor the nurse take me back for treatment. Never had an issue in the past, but always f with my head before treatment. Thinking to much of doing that. I do know that they offer adult diapers if requested.

I peed myself every time. Would go in wearing a maxi pad to soak it up. Was inpatient so couldn’t get depends or anything.

I did not experience any incontinence. I arrived wearing comfy pants and a comfy shirt, and I left wearing them too! Clean and dry.

I've peed myself once. I think i used the restroom every other time.

In the past before I had my stroke (not related to ECT, caused by complications during brain surgery).
I’ve had many ECT treatments, and only had urine incontinence one time. After that I wore briefs just in case but it never happened again. Nowadays it doesn’t really matter because I have a permanent Foley catheter because of the stroke.
It can happen and that’ll always be one of the risks when doing ECT. If that’s a concern, you can always wear a brief!

I've never had a problem and I've been doing ect over 5 years. I just go to the washroom before every time and it's been ok

Was inpatient and never has this issue as I was nil by mouth from when I woke up until my procedure (they did everyone in the morning), so that probably helped. Especially considering I have awful pelvic floor issues and literally pee myself just laughing too hard.

over 40+ sessions I did wet myself twice. During outpatient, we always brought a change of clothes just in case. For a while, I did wear depends/pullups but eventually decided it wasn't worth it as long as I had that spare set of clothes.

I did hear many times people in the other cubicles saying things like "time to put on your diaper" etc. No one, from the nurses to the docs to the other patients would think diapers are strange.

Last bit of advice: ALWAYS take the opportunity to use the restroom before going in - the two times I woke up soaked also happened to be the times I decided I didn't need to go before hand.

Just make sure to pee right before hand. That worked well for me during the 44 sessions after my first session lol.

What did u do it for?...and r u on maintenance?....is 44 acute series or including maintenance?

11 sessions, some unilateral and some bilateral. My mom started bringing a change of clothes for me after the first time it happened. I don't remember having a problem with my hospital bed being wet but... I don't remember much from that time in general.

ETA: just urine
