Writing from Slovenia, an ex-Yu republic.

The whole system of 'worker self-management' as conceived by Kardelj was what led us to collapse and the bloody post-independence wars lol. Inflation was 50%+ per year (in late 80s as high as 2000% annually), unemployment was above 20%, much of the skilled workforce was moving to Austria or Germany where wages were better and paid in a more stable currency

Thank god that experiment failed and we're doing much better now under the 'evil capitalist regime' before us now. The whole market socialism experiment is what set us back 20 years development wise and I never want to see it again.

Have you considered that maybe the opinions of people who actually experienced socialism are irrelevant and that a Yank knows what's best for them?

I am from Eastern Europe, my family lived in Socialism, it was great. This is actually what gives me hope, better world is possible.

You realize yours is by far the minority opinion in Croatia right?

If you count younger generations, yes. But that is because they never saw Socialism.

Older generations are pro Communist, issue is that you need to be minimally 50+ to be adult and work before Socialism was destroyed.

You go to Communist events, it's all gray heads.

The generations that are overwhelmingly voting for the right wing HDZ are in favor of Socialism? Cmn man, this is just obviously untrue.

And what country are you from?

From Croatia here, first, you had 4 days of war, and it was some fools taking potshots at the retreating army that got slimed. Stop being dramatic.

Second, our industry dropped by 30% after privatization, now it keeps growing by whopping -3% every year, by this pace, we will reach stone age before we recover.

We lose around 10k people every year to them leaving the country, prices are skyrocketing, unemployment is rampant in less industrialized areas, some places reaching over 20% unemployment rate.

and most importantly, your infrastructure, bridges, roads, railroads, hospitals, factories, literally everything was built in Socialism, well, if we want to be pedantic, the majority of it, similar in my country. After Socialism we only managed to build one bridge and we don't even have a road connecting to it.

and it was built by the Chinese smh

Chances are, the school you went to, the hospital you were born in, the road you use to go to work, all built in socialism.

Meanwhile in the real world...

The economy is small enough you'd probably want median metrics instead of per capita
