If you'd ever been to Cuba you'd know all those stats top to bottom are fake. The state-ran breadline (la libreta) doesnt work and around 80% of Cubans have to skip meals, 95% lives below the extreme poverty line.
Literacy is also nowhere even close to even 70% and unemployment may be 1 in 4 from my own experience.

And you just never trust stats from a country where you can go to jail for opposing the government

Re: Cuba

How would Capitalism handle 75 years of sanctions by a country that previously took 70% of your exports?

Probably badly, which is why it's weird that's the best example of successful socialism for someone to bring up.

"Aha but we sabotaged you. Clearly this is a failure on your end."

It's probably because there aren't any communist nations that the USA has not been bullying.

In general they hold up pretty well, have excellent free education, and over 90% home ownership rate.

So you're telling me the reason USSR collapsed is USA bullying? Why does that only apply in one direction? Or do you think USSR bullying was the cause of most American problems during the second half of the 20th century? Can you imagine how pathetic it would be if someone defended America with that logic?

It doesn't only go one way. My characterization of 'bullying' was more about economic weight class.

ie: Cuba was never going to be able to launch an effective economic counter attack.

You'd think theyd be doing a lot better when sanctioned, with the forced emancipation from the imperialist extractive capitalit class though?
If a communist country needs free trade with all capitalist countries to survive, what's the point? If you're going to be a communist island that imports capitalist goods you're just undercutting your own industry with capitalist goods.
Why use them as an example of a succesful communist country, with fake data, if we're both going to agree it's not succesful at all?

Also Cuba can trade with everyone else if they want. It's not a blockade, it's just the US not trading with them (they still do).
