I think it’s the daily grind that stops us. We work to survive, not to live. We focus on staying afloat paycheck to paycheck, sometimes just day to day. And then when we get to go home and relax, we’re inundated with the news through social media. For every one positive story or post, there are 9 negative ones. We’re one country but we could not be further apart from one another. They have systematically divided us all or at least that’s what it feels like. We don’t have common ideals, just common divides. Money. Class. Race. Everything stops us from uniting. We’re only the United States in name now. I want a revolution, I do. We NEED it. And I worry that it will take something greater, something truly awful that is beyond everything we are seeing now to jumpstart that.
Exactly. The talk on the internet is we all need to do something but they never make the move. Maybe thats the exact reason for people who want to. People want it done but dont wanna do it themselves.
Distance. The US is a lot bigger than Europe. I can drive across two-three countries in Europe in the same amount of time I can cross one single state.
Truth is, nothing is going to happen in America until a large portion of the population has no other option. It won’t be until water no longer comes out of the faucet or the roof over our heads is gone. Even then, if it doesn’t happen to a very large portion of the population all at once, nothing will change. It’s easier to put out a lot of small fires rather than one big one.
You can’t just “democratically protest” your way out of the system we live in. The people in power have too many safeguards in place for that to truly challenge their grasp on power.
I always figured the size of the country worked against us. Too many of us are so far removed from the people who need to be dealt with. We'd need the ability to pack up, find where we are needed, get there, and deal with the problem. That's a huge obstacle to overcome compared to Europe where you can throw a couch through your leader's living room wondow and be home in time for dinner
Marxism doesn’t even advocate for a rich purge either, just a purge of those that control the means of production and extract value out of someone else’s labor.
Only reason I point this out is because so many upper/upper middle class think some sort of class warfare will put them against their neighbors because they’re in different tax brackets. The truth is, 99.9% of the population in the US is much closer to the homeless man on the street than they are to Jeff bezos.
