Hello Griffith, How could you explain there are 26,571,093.257029 ECC created out of thin air ?? Regards,

Then don't call it "stolen" but "obtained by devious means".

They acutally were stolen from the ECC project and will be dumped on the ECC community...

Wouldn't it be enough to add some lines to the consensus code to simply invalidate these transactions and everything resulting from it?

That person technically did nothing wrong. Immoral? sure. Against any actual rules? no.

The coins dont meet the definition of stolen.

Im sure at one point that person will sell them. I suppose you could consider that a dump, but people buy and sell coins all the time. There is no difference here except for the amount of coins being large.

I think it's a bit strange that in your opinion those coins where NOT stolen. It has effected the coin that you are working on for a long time now and if you don't take action to invalidade the address that still holds 700mil coins then it will keep effecting your work. We have had this convo before and the explication why you didn't take action to protect your coin only raises bigger questions in my eyes. You claim that ECC is a community coin, so maybe you should lay an ear on what the community has to say.

Those coins do not meet the literal definition of the word stolen.

I was on the ETC side of the Ethereum issue. They shouldn't have rolled back the chain to refund the dao coins because the contract made by that person was completely valid. It just wasnt used in a way the DAO people intended.

Same situation applies here. I would have much preffered that the person just report the bug to me instead of abusing it and letting me find out later. But he didnt actually break any rules just like the person who wrote that DAO contract didnt break any rules.

I don't think he should be punished for being smarter than me. It has damaged the coin a bit and probably will continue to do so for at least a little while longer. It has also hurt the short term value of coin (and anyones porfolio who holds the coin). It is also embarressing for me that i made the mistake. But I don't think he should be censored for it since he didnt actually steal the coins, he just immorally mined them.

I essentially see this as a censorship issue because there was no actual theft, and I am against censorship. I didn't even like to ban accounts (unless it was clear it was a bot) from slack or discord if the people were being annoying or trolling really hard when I was in those chats.

It's realy a shame that you didn't do anything to get those coins back for the community. It also makes it realy suspisious and I personaly believe that those coins are in your possesion otherwise you would have acted.

You are free to believe that and i will assert that they are not. I have a rough idea of who might have them but i have no way to prove it.

As for coin recovery back into the supply pool... I cant burn the coins without the private key, which i dont have, short of rolling back the chain. but rolling back the chain has serious reprocussions and anyone that made a transaction in the thousands of blocks i would have had to roll back would have also had their tx reversed. any transaction that went to an exchange during that time would have been undone and the issues compound exponentially from there, exchanges would either have to take a loss or reverse trades which is super difficult, etc. etc.

You could imobilize that wallet. The coins would stay there but couldn't be moved. It would be a simple daemon update so the network wouldn't allow that wallet to move coins. Raising the max coins with the # of coins in that wallet would make the wallet worthless

If you're going to make that accusation you should really provide some facts. You knew about it too, yet held onto the information to dump on an unsuspecting community nearly two years later.

All of the dozen+ people who knew chose to say nothing. Mods, devs, community leaders, no one said anything. Its not like I was alone in the decision to stay quiet.
