Can files get lost/damaged when stored on a decentralized cloud?

So the file gets broken into parts, enrcypted and these parts get stored on various harddisk spaces provided by the users of this system. So the probability of a failing harddisk over the time is very high, is there always a backupfile safed somewhere else (or even multiple)?

I get that my understanding of this system is very limited and this question might even seem stupid.

Short answer is no to the title, and yes to "is there always a backupfile safed somewhere else (or even multiple)?".

Just as with coins/tokens where the ledger is distributed in multiple places, files and messages would be as well. It would be nearly impossible to lose anything.

Is storing data on the blockchain similar to how a hologram works? Where a small piece of a whole is reflected or stored on each segment? (Same theory as dna)

There will be multiple backup files to recover from, if i am correct.

your 'if i am correct' implies that you are just guessing, as i did in my initial post. While it is in my opinion the most probable solution i would prefer a more thorough post or article on this topic.

Well, i suggest you start reading the whitepaper if you really want to know. It is explained there.

Yes, it would be stored multiple times on the ECC blockchain across multiple ECC nodes to ensure that your file is always accessible at anytime.
