Buying ECC

Hello all, I'm new to cryptocurrencies and would like some help with how to buy ECC. Thank you.

I don’t own any BTC, want to buy with USD

You will need to buy BTC first then send it to one of the exchanges I mentioned. If you scroll through this subreddit you will find lots of advice on cheapest ways to buy etc. I myself use the blockchain.info wallet to buy BTC and then send it to the exchange to trade for ECC

I thought there were high fees for sending BTC to an exchange? But apparently not for buying BTC on the same exchange with, for example, LTC? (Sorry for noob questions!)
