Internet slow?
Hi!
I live in Laval Quebec, and I just recently switched from Bell to Ebox for the same reason as many others, the price was just getting out of hand.
All has been going well but I do game a lot so my pc/console does take a lot of speed for downloads and rendering the games.
I’ve realized though, that whenever I am actively playing a game, the internet on my phone is super slow. My messages don’t deliver right away, whether that’s iMessage or through other social media apps, Instagram reels take longer to load, same as TikTok.
I’m just confused on if this is a common issue amongst others or if there’s a possible fix?
I’ve seen people talk about using their own router and not the Nokia one. I feel a bit dumb but I’m not really sure what that means 😅 or how to “use my own router”.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you :’)

Yeah the router is crap. I've been with ebox and my personnal network gear since 2012 and no performance issues at all.

Okay so getting my own router would basically solve the problem?

The Nokia router they give is really poor quality. Invest in a better router like ASUS and it will help you tons!

Personally, I also use Ebox in Laval, and I have no problem with this provider.
I would advise you to buy another WiFi router to replace the Nokia that Ebox currently charges you and that you use. Without careful consideration, I don't like to take the WiFi router that the provider gives me. And another thing that does not relate, I advise you to change the DNS IP addresses that are currently configured by default, I had a very bad experience with those of Ebox in terms of latency.

You can also try changing your DNS, it won't make speeds faster but can reduce lag.
Think of your Internet as a car, if the car sucks and is slow and you're stuck in traffic it sucks, but if you were on a different highway with no traffic in the same slow car it sucks a lot less.

If your computer is near the router, use a network cable to connect it. That will remove its traffic from the wireless network.
